It's gonna get hot this weekend

Yay for pools and cold beer. And pools that allow you to drink cold beer while in them.

I had a pool, didn't help. When it gets that hot then the pool water heats up enough to not be refreshing anymore. There's a very narrow temperature window where I enjoyed the pool, so I got rid of it last year.

Still don't regret it. No more cleaning, no more chemicals, and I can focus more on getting the rest of the property looking good.

I've got a neighborhood one that's part of my subdivision. It's a 5 minute walk. It's big enough that it doesn't get to bathtub levels of hot that the smaller pools do and it's not my headache to clean. Win-win. Just simply hanging my feet in the water and drinking a beer while my kids are in the shallow end playing is enough to keep my summers a lot more easy and enjoyable than having no pool.

Yeah... it's a lot less enjoyable when you're the one that has to be upkeep it :\

good riddance

Was hot in Portland for a week or two. Now it's finally cooled off and they're even talking snow in the mountains. Love it.

I've been having to use the furnace for the past few days. Feels like fall.

Starting to warm up though. It's supposedly going to go as high as 28C by next weekend. I'll believe it when I see it.

Had to bust out my calculator and do the conversion from Canada to Freedom degrees...

I would love it if my concern was that it was going to get UP TO 82 degrees. The way this presidential race is going I don't feel like being around here much longer anyway, and my company has a pretty sweet facility up there (unfortunately not in a great part of Ontario, but I could look around)

Simple conversion.

2xC+30 = F [close enough]

I know the real formula by heart, and approximating in my head is easy enough. I just want to be comfortable enough with both to NOT have to convert in either direction to know what temp we're talking about, but that would only really only come with constant use.

gocorps, I am generally the same way, so, have a nice handy chart of 10 deg c increments.

10C cool
20C nice
30C hot
40C extreme agony
50C HOT HOT HOT DONT AHHHH NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

I have a similar chart on my AC unit, because it can only go in F, there's no way to change it. Though it does not really matter since I just put it as low as it can go. 😛 I think it only goes down to like 64F, but when I put it on that setting it keeps going so works for me.

Supposed to get to 90F/32C this weekend. Not as bad as last weekend but still ranks pretty high on the heft index

I hear ya. I bought the house with the pool, and my best advice there is... treat the pool like you would a car: ask for service records! Have they changed the gaskets? The sand/DE? I kept losing water whenever I ran the pump, so I assumed that my spider gasket was bad on the sand filter. I removed the valve, and yep... it was in horrid shape. I'm pretty sure that the previous owners never changed it.

Now, I started finding sediment in the pool, and after examining my cleaning robot's filters, I determined that it's actually sand. So, that means my sand filter is most likely leaking into the pool. However, I can't get replacement parts for the filter, because I literally have no idea what filter it is. It's information panel has a bunch of fields on it, but the unit is so old that all of the pertinent information is completely gone. I ended up buying a new sand filter and 300 pounds of sand yesterday. It's time to learn how to plumb!

Although, the chemicals really aren't that bad. I can usually just guess the chlorine levels and dump about 24-30 fl. oz. of bleach into the pool and get the chlorine about where I want it. (The tabs are easier, but they add stabilizer, and I don't need more of that.) My pH rarely changes as do any of the other chemicals.

So, yeah... dealing with a pool is a pain in the ass. Just find a pushover friend with a pool, and randomly stop by to use it. 😛

It was 90º last Wednesday... and that's the coolest it's been since then. We might finally go back under 90º next week.
I expect this shit in late July/early August 😡

Sounds rough

I think the next owners of my house are going to be pretty happy with the folder worth of paperwork they're going to get. The maintenance practices I've learned at work over the last couple years have trickled into home life and I document quite a bit.

The previous owners didn't give me anything, and I had to find out the hard way how to take care of various things they didn't warn me about.

Warming up here! It's 25C out right now. That's 77F. Actually suppose to go up to 30C on the weekend. 😱 That's 86F. Too hot for my taste but won't complain. The nights are still cool so can open windows to cool off the house too. My house tends to stay fairly cool, it only starts to really warm up after a couple days of heat wave.
