Thank god you decided to shut it down. Would have burned up while you slept. I noticed you changed your avatar. Maybe one of your shrooms got caught in the fan . . .
I had the American Flag as my avatar... but they're "done" over there, so ...

Thermal migration = burn a friggin hole in the chip?

Basically, the state where the fixed silicon begins to "melt" and shift states from transistor to transistor. Very bad. :Q

I get worried if I see anything more than 44deg C on the CPU! It's like an OVEN in your case!
You know, since it was making the loud hum noise, I removed the fan from the heatsink last night to check it. The chrome from the orb sure didn't feel all that hot... I can't imagine the chip actually being 180F+ degrees. Isn't this heat supposed to be transmitted through all metals ?

***Morning Update*** ... fan is noise-less this morning... running at 6308RPM currently and keeping the CPU at a moderate 123F for the last hour.

What a difference from a fan running at 800RPM eh ?

Check there, if you seriously consider whatever you are doing more important than burning out your processor, you've got some issues :)

BTW: You do realize that 85C is just about the highest your AMD can go before it fails right?

If you have been reading the thread, this is yesterday's news. It's at 51C/123F right now, is that still terminally ill ?

**UPDATE**
So I receive my new Speeze CPU fan from Newegg today (5 short days after ordering from Newegg - they rock) ... take a minute to install (damn nice feature on the clip for a screwdriver head to assist) ... and voila:

COOL, been running all day long...
