halo's graphics may not be cutting edge anymore, but it is rare that you find a game with such an indepth, and really throught about single player.

The soundtrack is awesome, the enemy AI is only matched by the likes of farcry and only farcry, the single player game is nearly flawless in terms of glitches, and there is a perfectly balanced weapons system, where every weapon has a purpose.

What is your new rig? . . . i just FINISHED my current upgrade with the arrival of a Radeon Pro 256/256 today (the 'xt' version with 2.5ns RAM) . . . i have P4@3.3Ghz/Abit IC7/1GB PC3500 in DC/WD 120GB/Audigy 2 LSd which i built in Feb.

My current FAV - For single player, Thief III is AWEsome (you gotta like a "sneaker" - no "guns" blazin')
(demo available)

Far Cry is a graphics "wonder" - try the free demo

Painkiller is ok but if i have to play this "type" of mindless shooter - i will wait for Serious Sam III (admitedly Painkiller does have a few neat "twists" and out of the ordinary gameplay IF you want to look for it) D/L the Demo

Bargain Bin . . .

. . . for $20 DeuS ex II is PATCHED and runs and looks ok with a high-end machine.
(also a demo)

Max Payne II - also $20 bargain Bin (also a demo)

Star Trek Elite Forces II - fun and short but for $5 it's "all" the Quake III engine can be (also a demo).

There are many demos you can download to try out. UT2k4, Halo, CoD, etc. Free ones like Enemey Territory or Americas Army are great also.

I do not like FPS. I suppose I belong to the wrong demographic group, both age and gender. However, I like PC games and in the course of that I have played some FPS. Original Halflife, original Unreal, first Max Payne, and now Far Cry. And Far Cry is pretty sensational. FWIW, my judgement not being the most experienced or naturally aligned along subjective preferences, I still say have a go at Far Cry. I hope you have a R9800 or FX5900 graphics board so you can bask in it's glory. Warning, version 1.1 do not work correctly on my FX5900. I'm playing version 1.0.
