It's funny what maintains it's "value"....

As a "kid" (legally, I was an adult, but I lived with my mom), I had a good job and used to use my money to buy toys.

One toy was a 1977 Harley XLCR.

At the time, it was a 12 year old bike, but it was still awesome.

My mom kicked me out of the house two years later. I needed something more practical than the Harley since I couldn't borrow her car anymore for groceries, etc and couldn't afford paniers and a fairing for the Harley, but I refused to get anything else but another bike.

Here's how the deal went down....

I got $1200 for my XLCR. With the $1200 I got a NEWER '83 Suzuki GS750 with less miles, ALREADY EQUIPPED with paniers and a Windjammer fairing! And unlike my old bike, this one didn't need tires. ;)

Another thread had me reminiscing about having that bike and it just struck me funny what had happened to it. :p

BTW: The reality of having to pay rent and utilities and other costs of living sure took care of having so many "toys" and that job didn't seem to good anymore.

You guys living with the parents right now.... enjoy what you have NOW!!! :p

Yeah.. That's what I said.... I got $1200 for it so I could turn around and buy another newer, better condition bike for the same amount of money.

Just blew me away that in someone else's eyes, an old Harley in need of rubber was worth $1200.

C'est la vie! Three years ago I paid $1200 for an '82 VW. So I guess I'm a nut job in that respect as well. ;)

Opps, Didn't pick that up. :)

My dad loves Harleys. He'd pay more then that to buy an old one and fix it up. :)

Hey now.... I needed the money. You can't tell me that there's never been a time in your life where you just had to sell something off to make ends meet?

Fairings and paniers are expensive brand new, and the Suzuki already had them installed. With the fairing (which has several compartments for those who didn't know) and the paniers I was able to do full weeks' worth of grocery trips on the bike that before I would use mom's car for.

Whatever. Guess that's what I get for not having a silver spoon born in my mouth. ;)

Next time, I'll win the lottery before I get kicked out of a house. :p

Pacfanweb: Yes. I particualarly like that model and would easy pay $2000 for another one like it. :D My guess is, if I bought one, the next person to be kicking me out of the house would be my wife! :Q

19... So she had every right to give me the boot.

I hated her for it then, but I didn't hold a grudge. ;) We're on good terms. :D

Nope. Sold it a year later when I had to pay rent and buy some groceries. Bought a decked out mountain bike instead.

Lived in a college town, so a 21 year old running groceries on a bicycle wasn't too odd. :p
