Rogers Axes Usenet Access
Doesn't e-mail customers about it...

Posted 2005-11-10 09:04:55

Customers of Canadian cable provider Rogers have realized they'll no longer have Usenet service as of December 15. Of course customers weren't notified via e-mail; they instead noticed the decision only because the site FAQ had changed. Rogers claims that two things led to the decision: fewer people are using Usenet, and "as a member of Canadian Coalition Against Internet Child Exploitation (CCAISE) Rogers is committed to reducing the effectiveness of Usenet as a distribution vehicle for child exploitation images."

When you run out of reasons there is always the "Its for the children" gambit.
