I was in a similar situation and just recently bought the denon 1610 from electronics expo... I'm sold on the multeq audyssey.

They ended up emailing me that the 1610 was OOS and they upgraded me to the 1611 at no extra cost.. it should ship out tomorrow.

I paired it up with this speaker set

It should all show up sometime this week.

I'll eventually add a sub but don't want to piss off my neighbors (small apartment).

Thanks so much, dude...I ordered soon after you posted this - I got no email regarding an OOS 1610, but a 1611 showed up today! 😀

*cough* pictures jlee pictures

I spent all evening doing this (actually, a buddy of mine did that while I did the speaker installation):

I will get to it! 😛

Well, I definitely want a sub but it sounds pretty good to me..especially compared to what I had before. 😛

you need speaker stands nau. Even if it is just cinder blocks.

move that media rack or shift the whole set up a few inches to the left.

The racks are getting moved to the other side of the room. I have a tripod and already ran Audyssey...I'll run it again when I have stands & stuff moved.

I could probably make some stands out of MDF that I have kicking around....how tall should they be?

damn it s44 beat me 🙂

Looks nice jlee! I need to find a tv stand for my stuff since right now my receiver is just sitting on the box it came it with the center speaker on top of it

If it sounds good to you I'd just call it a day.

I haven't experienced quality HT..not sure if ever, really. My cars feel good to me but that doesn't mean I don't want to make 'em faster. 😉

I'll look into speaker stands..may try making a pair..could be dangerous 😱

Just be careful you don't invest more money in fluff that would have been better spent on the main components.

I have seen people spend $200 in cables for a $500 setup.

Well I'd need speaker stands when they turn into surrounds later anyway, so meh. If I make them, that'll be cheap enough - I have half a sheet of MDF left anyway.

I used cables I had kicking around..thanks to monoprice and car stereo wiring, I have enough stuff to last me a while.

I'd still make a test setup to see if you do like them better. Just stack up a bunch of books and plop the speakers on to see if it sounds better. Easy and free way to try it out. If it does sound better then its time ot manufacture your own or buy them.

Looks like some nice speakers. I hope you enjoy them.

When it comes time to eventually get your subwoofer ... you may want to consider BIC Accoustech. I got myself a PL-200 sub, and it is perfect. I use it in a 10x27x7.5 dedicated home theater room in my basement. It goes down to 22hz and can put out over 110db. You can find for under $300 ... retail is a lot more, but, retail is unrealistic.

Do you think it's worth the money over a $90 8" Dayton, assuming mostly low volume in a small room? I'll be happy to wait and spend the money if it's worthwhile. I imagine it would be much more future-proof than the Dayton would be. Hmm.

If you are handy, build your own.
