Today is a great SoCal day no need for the AC except on the freeway so your lungs don't fill with smoke. August and September will be nasty though and the AC will always be on.

I'm in San Francisco where a hot summer day is 70 degrees. Ill soon be moving out to Sacramento though, I hear it gets up over 110 during August/September.

Ouch, that's quite a temp change!

Though, are you paying less for rent/mortgage? I would think so going from SF to Sac.

I drove through Eastern Washington, Southern Idaho, straight down into Southern Utah, and then across through the deserts of Nevada, Arizona, Death Valley, and Southeastern California last August. No air conditioning. In fact I had the heat on full blast to cool down my overheating engine.

You want to talk about hot? Try this:
Last week, while I was driving back from Palm Springs my A/C stopped working all of a sudden. It was 115 degrees outside, plus the car had sat under the sun for 3 hours. I honestly believe I would have dehydrated if I didn't stop for water along the way.

you may have. water is your friend. so many visitors come here and do a lot of hiking in the valley and they don't realize how much you sweat, every year people die from it.

i live in phx, az so heat is one thing we know. it is really sad to see how many parents leave their kids in a f*cking carseat and forget about them in may/june/july when they come home from running errands and leave the little ones in the car, out in the direct sun, with windows up. it can easily hit over 150F in a car sitting in the sun so the little ones die a horrible death.

"the little ones"

What are you, a 65 year old woman? :p

no biatch, but wtf do you me to call them? they are helpless little kids, actually i would say toddlers ages from just born to 2-3years, strapped into a carseat in a vehicle that is soon to be 150F+, they start pulling their hair out and everything, horrible way to die, don't you think?

Tucson AZ will be consistantly above 100 for months to come. Thankfully my AC works. Big electric bills for the house coming up.

i know that feeling, i have 3 windows units in here...my electric bill with all the computers and stereo equipment and such runs 150 a month :(

And the computers generate even more heat =/

the amplifiers generate more, i think...i've been trying to remember to turn off everything when i'm not here...my bill has dropped a few bucks...but it could just be coincidence, too

I rarely use it.

It's so hot where I work, just getting outside seems like the A/C is on.

About gas usage, I don't think it matters much. Driving with the windows down on a highway will create more drag which causes you to use more gas to go the same speed anyways. A/C will still drain more gas than the extra drag, but the difference isn't all that much. The faster you go, the worse having the windows down will be as far as gas-usage.

Idiot friends think their mileage will be cut in half by using A/C, so they attempt to sweat it out. And they have no reason to b!tch, especially when their parents pay for their gas. The reason why I like to drive... bust out the Coke Slurpee and A/C in So. Cal!

I would never want to live in an extremely hot city town. Chicago Summers are more than bad enough for me......

That being said, One time when I was ona road trip to New Orleans a few years ago, the AC stopped working in my Car .... I drove home in 90+ degree temps with 90+ % humidity on the expressway with all the windows open. I could not stand the heat. This was like, March or April, so it wasn't even summer yet. The windows stayed wide open until we got to the Tenessee border ... then the temp was in the 60s so I could close the windows and have a little bit of peace and quiet with the vent on at least.

That summer I got rid of that car and bought me current car ...

EDIT: That being said ... anytime the temp gets above like 70, I use the AC in my car ... I really don't like hot weather.

At home I usually use just fans until it gets about 75-80 deg F. Then I turn teh AC on .. and keep it at 78 during the day/evening, and then 72 when I go to sleep. (I really HATE anything warmer then that, and I can't sleep when it's too hot.)

One of these days, I'll move up to Northern WI, the UP of MI, or MN .... however, that probably won't be until I retire in 40+ years.

It's not that bad, I actually kind of prefer it when I want fresh air.

I still use my AC most of the time though. I'm in Sacramento, not SoCal.

Not too hot here in the San Gabriel Valley ... only about 80F

Clovis is a city of 86,000 adjacent to Fresno (pop. 460,000) on its northeast side. I definitely wouldn't consider Fresno or even Bakersfield as a part of Southern California, though, for geographic (applying more to Fresno here) and other reasons.

This past week we had a small heat wave with upper 90s. I actually don't mind when it's about 90 outside, though, and this week we should have some 80s.

Do not use A/C in my vehicle here in LV

SoCal is not that hot.

Windows down, little highway driving anyhow. Cool in AM if I go to a client site.
Half way home in Pm before the A/C would make a difference.
