Somebody rear-ended my Accord last night, between the hours of 2-6am, in my driveway.

The damage: (bad cellphone pix)

It was in my driveway, up on jackstands because I was in the process of pulling the head for a gasket replacement. It was shoved 4ft forward and about 3ft right. Pretty sure it's totaled. Found two lower lenses like from an older Chevy truck inside the trunk. I think they were drunk and aiming for the hotel entry. They were going pretty fast because they damaged a small tree, which you can almost see in the second pic(leaves on the far right side). Thank god I was at work, or they'd have clipped my truck, too.

Guess I don't need to finish the head gasket job.

God what a shitty month.

Sorry to hear that. Pretty hardcore. If you're nearing completion on the gasket, may as well finish it, pull the damage out as best you can, and get a trunk deck (they're cheap second-hand). Sell it as a beater for $500-$600 or whatever. Surely better than the scrap value you'd get if you got rid of it as is.

If there's real frame damage or damage to the gas tank, then forget it though.

Silly thought, but have you checked the hotel parking lot? They may still be there. Drunks aren't known for being terribly intelligent.

Absolutely sucks about the car, but I'm glad to hear that you have a truck to drive in the interim.

Can't see in those photos if the right rear fender is bent or not and can't see if anything got hit in the front. I would say you are looking at about $3000 or so to fix. And you should call the police and your insurance if you haven't done so already.

I doubt he would have full coverage on a beater like that. I'd hate to lose a car but it looks like that thing was put out of its misery.

It was a great car till I blew the head gasket.

I actually don't have any insurance on it - dropped the coverage when I stopped driving it about 18 months ago.

The other guy's insurance should pay for it, yes?

If he/they live around there, it shouldn't be too hard to track them down.

That sucks man. Had a similar thing happen to my uncle. Except the dude drove into the side of the garage. He drove across three lawns, totalled the neighbor's van and destroyed the garage. The dude was still in the car though and was completely wasted. Looks like some paint on your car too. See if you can get some detective work done and track down that deadbeat.

Man, so many AT'ers are getting pwned lately when it comes to cars.

I can't believe someone could actually drive away from that. I'm sure they'll get caught. Usually the rear bumper is way stronger than the front one. Whoever hit you probably took more damage than you did.
