It's Bye Bye Time for 7800gtx 512.

Flame war again...LOL
Yes the 512GTX was a PR card and yes it worked as none but the 512GTX owners could say they had biggest e-penises. ATI have IMHO always been 6months behind Nvidia, however does it matter really?, I only have a 19" LCD, anything more than a 6800GT is a waste for me.

However the same cannot be said for CPU's, now thats a war worth fighting..........LOL

Yeah, but we can see your ignorance without pics, that makes up for it. 😉

I don't need to justify to you the hardware I receive, period. If you don't believe it, tough luck. Live with it. If I choose to take pics, I will. Until then, you get nothing.

Your posts today have been off the hook. You really are bitter.

BTW, make any other phantom eBay bids lately? 😉

Edited to reflect this was directed at 5150Joker.

Pics aren't posted because I was specifically told to wait (why, I don't know).

Same holds true for benchmarks (which aren't any different than other results already posted). *shrugs*

Meh, i see your reply wasn't directed at me.

But still, generally people ask for pics because well, we find new hardware exciting & like to see other ppl's configs. Or at least i do.

I guess you & 5150Joker have some kind of love affair going on though, since your reply certainly seemed to be curt enough

Bitter about what? Posts "off the hook"? Lay off the crack Ronin. I asked for pics, you refused. I also have 2xR580s but have been told to hold off posting pics until February 06. 😉

He's just angry because I made fake eBay bids on overpriced xbox 360s awhile back. I guess he must have had a few auctions up himself. He was certain eBay would send me to prison for making a few high value bids for which I was subsequently outbid anyway. Ronin and his b.s. as usual.

@n7

Something like that.

When I get clearance (again, no idea why this is the case, as they've never asked me to hold off in the past), I'll be happy to post everything I've got (pics of the cards, pics of the box, benchmarks, etc).

It's no secret that I deal with ATi, nVIDIA, and a few other manufacturers frequently (S3, XGI, and Matrox, to name a few others).

ugh, just checked back in to this forum. why does every thread devolve into this? lock delete mods. do you hear me?

I have an ATi built Crossfire box (meaning, they sent me a whole computer) and 2 X1800XTs, though.

Sweet! Very nice!

Given the information you've spouted over the past few months, getting someone to believe that heavy sarcasm is the best joke I've heard today. Keep it up. We enjoy making fun of you publicly...just keep giving us ammo. 😉

Who's we? Are you a schizo now? Wouldn't surprise me. BTW I'm still waiting for the eBay police to come arrest me LOL.

Damn you guys are lucky. Or just have too much money.

How does one get to be an ATi/nVidia whore 😛?

I want in.

Nobody can make you care how you conduct your life. You have to learn that all by your lonesome. Good Luck with that.

I wasn't.

I'm being serious.

Course, i don't expect anyone to actually say, but anyone who gets free systems & uber high end video cards...damn what does one do to get that kinda love 😛?

Correct. The x1800xt is the best price to performance card in the ultra high end range and more importantly, it's widely available.

The GTX 256 offers nearly the same performance for at least $100 less than the XT. Not too mention a nice quite and cool single slot design. In fact 256 GTX's in SLI were beating Crossfire XT's in some benchmarks and you can always add another GTX later without having to track down an expensive master card.

Is anyone really surprised that the 512MB GTX is going to be phased out quick?

*DISCLAIMER*The following is pure speculation
nVidia realized that when the XTs dropped in price they'd be in trouble during a very important time of the year (holiday season) so the 512MB GTX was created to retake the performance crown. I see it as an attempt to regain the performance crown for the holiday season, but with a die shrink to 90nm set to give a good performance jump the 512MB GTX was destined to have a short life.

You checked the prices lately?

THe GTX has about a $50 price margin against the XT and the GT has about a $35 price margin against the XL

Yes, I checked newegg prior to posting. Cheapest retail GTX was $449. Cheapest retail XT was $559.

Believe it or not, there are other places besides newegg. Try the pricing engine on the front page perhaps.

A lot of those price searches return, refurbs, out of stock and dealers with a low seller rating.

Newegg is a store most people trust with reasonable prices.

I'm sure I could find much higher prices as well.

Using AT's price search engine, cheapest XT is $499 at eWiz (who cares if it's retail or OEM?). Cheapest GTX is $449. That's a $50 difference.

You always limit your price searching to one store?

I care if it's OEM or retail and I'm sure many others do. Although I'm sure you don't care what kind of warranty it has, whether it comes with any games\software\connectors\ etc.

1 store selling a "bulk" card does not make the overall price.

If you don't care if it's OEM to save $50, why not save another $50 on top of that and get a full retail card with a lifttime warranty and performs about the same.

I think it is because we will be putting new heatsinks/waterblocks on those badboys anyways so OEM is fine as the warranty goes out the window
There is still only a 50 difference in price between the cards so it looks to me that ATI is back and very competitive in the upper end. (I have a watercooled 7800GTX at 521core and 1414mem before I am accused of being an ATI fanboi  )
The point is that the 7800GTX 512 is basically a false start that Nvidia "fans" should be bemoaning just like the ATI "product delays." Nvidia won this round but isn't going out with a bang.
