Wife is meeting a friend for lunch and then getting her hair done. Daughter is at my parents and playing with her cousin (poor parents, surprised my dad isn't down at my place to escape the madness).
So what better use of a free afternoon than to brew some beer.
Making a Sam Adams lager clone.
First lager and it will be the longest 10 weeks to see if it turns out OK.

Next weekend is an anchor stream clone and the following will be an amber ale. Pale ale on tap and just kegged an IPA yesterday. Won't tap that until next weekend since my regulator only has one pressure setting.

Damn, kids just showed up to go sledding. At least they will be outside.

Good job! You can always have the kids help brew ya know.

What's your process to make that Sams clone? What's the grain bill, how long do you ferment it, are you adding sugar when you bottle it, etc. Been wanting to do some brewing of my own but don't know much about it.

There are a series or multiple editions of books titled Clonebrews - a home brewing guide. Each has about 150 recipes or so and are a good starting point for beer styles you like. Most brew supply shops also make up kits with everything you need to brew one of their recipes. If there are no brew supply shops locally, check out brewyourownbrew.com

I went with a simple kit for this one since I've never made a lager before:

And I keg everything. Don't have the patience to deal with bottling.

Fermenting at 55°-57°F and will do the lagering in a corney keg with the airlock lid (optimal ferment is 50°-55°F, hoping to stay in the 55 range).

I would have used the keezer for the fermentation, but this arctic air the last 2 months has resulted in my keezer dropping to +2°C and I can't get it warmer (haven't gotten around to installing a lightbulb to provide heat).

And it is now brew night.
Instead of waking up at the asscrack of darn tomorrow and potentially interfering with the US - Russia game, i am making my anchor steam clone. Yeast is ready to go; just decanted.
Wife and daughter are asleep. IPA in pint glass.
Good Friday night.
And i get to use my new wort chiller. 🙂
