Now there's the wait.

Asus P5B Deluxe
C2D E6400
TeamGroup DDR2-1000 5-5-5

I see you have a similar setup.

Howz that E6400 OCing for ya?

Or you not into that kinda thing?

I would try to OC but I have no idea how. Is there any beginner guides you know of?

My CPU temp is at 33C according to Asus Probe. Using the stock cooler as well. How much could I OC at that temp?

A lot.

I'm not sure of beginner guides really, & from what i can tell, it is more difficult to get a good OC with C2D than say Pentium Ds or s939 AMD.

But anyone can do it if they are willing to learn.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums = best resource for that OCing tips right now, since i'd bet that the members there own more P5Bs than all the other hardware forums out there combined.
(At least of OCing ppl)

That's where i'll be reading thru threads upon threads when i get mine.

You should always keep your expectation to minimum. 😛
Anyhow congrats on your new rig and wish you the best!

Heh, i have never yet gotten what i consider a great OC outta all the CPUs i've owned, & nothing outta my RAM.

I just want 3 GHz 🙂

I want a hell of a lot more, but i'm not counting on anything much.

Good start n7, I am sure you'll drive it to where you want it to go. How does it feel at 2600 compared to your lousy Opteron? 😛

Don't you need to vdrop or some kind of mod on the Asus mobo for 500FSB? What are you gonna use for HSF?

E6400 + DS3 + OCZ DDR2 800 = 3.2GHz here!

Well, so far it's good, though i cannot get my second video card working for my third & fourth displays :frown:

I am just trying to figure out the bios right now, so i can actually seriously OC whenever my Team Group arrives.

Very nice.
I hope i can get to 3.2 GHz when my RAM arrives.

I am using the TT Big Typhoon.

A lot of people are hitting 500 w/o any mods. I doubt i'm gonna get that far, but i can dream i suppose.
If you take a stroll over to XS's Extreme Overclocking section, you'll see every single high FSB thread is done by the P5B Deluxe 🙂
Some of those scores are with modded ones, others not.

I overclocked a friend's P5B Deluxe and here's what I recommend. Put vcore on 1.375v, go up .5v on every other voltage you can adjust. Put memory voltage on the rated spec of your memory. Put the Memory at 1:1 (so it runs the same speed as your fsb). Put FSB on 400Mhz. Memory at 5-5-5-15 (just to start). Run some stability tests for 30min to 1hour and see if it passes ok. if it does go in and adjust the memory down to 4-5-5-5-15 and repeat the test. Then do 4-4-5-15. notice a pattern? I had problems running the P5B Deluxe FSB between 330Mhz and 380Mhz and it wouldn't get stable. It would, however stabilize at 400Mhz which is where I left it with an e6300.

This was using the 507 bios.

You can then go up or down on the voltages see if you can drop them and get stable or if you need to increase them to go further. I found these settings to be a good base to start with.

Where did you find the TeamGroup memory? Link?

I think TeamGroup RAMs are exclusive to TankGuys. I could be wrong though.

F That!

Shoot for 3.5ghz or bust..

I don't want to upgrade if I can't get 3.5ghz +

Keep me posted N!

Guys, i am using crappy DDR2-533 value RAM 🙁

Till my Team Group comes in, i can't seem to get past 300 stably, even with 5-5-5-15 timings.

And thus far i haven't even received notice of anything, which means another week or two of waiting at least unfortunately.

I'm already happy with my results, & i don't even have my good RAM yet 🙂

It's not Orthos stable, but that doesn't surprise me, since i think the RAM is getting a tad over spec 😉

As for temps, i know they are sky high, but i also know something about them is borked, since the heatpipes on my TT BT are still just barely warm.

Hey, that's not bad at all. With my current system, my dual superpi is 1 sec faster.

BTW, how's the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool temp reading compared to Core Temp?

I should hope you're getting better scores. What clockspeed though, 3.2 GHz?
My RAM timings are insanely loose lol.

TAT is reading temps very similarly to Core Temp.
Seems a degree higher maybe than Core Temp.

What HSF?

TT Big Typhoon.

As i've mentioned a bunch of times, something isn't right.

The heatpipes don't even get hot, & with my Opty @ 55C, they got hot.

So either the heatsink isn't mounted right, the paste is crap (i used Thermaltake's paste, since i had no AS5 at the time), or the temps are off.

Not sure yet.

I've been running Memtest86+ 1.55 & it's not reporting any errors.
Which would seem to indicate the instability @ 3.33 GHz isn't RAM based 🙁
