For those who don't know, I'm a photojournalism student from the University of Iowa. I'm currently taking a semester abroad at the University of Tasmania in Australia. I've been here for about a month, but unfortunately haven't done much traveling. Anyway, here's some pics from my travels and daily life in Hobart:

Somewhere right in the center of the state:

Curious, what do you shoot with?

Love the photos :)

Thanks. :)

I've got a Canon 5D. I normally use my Canon 50mm f/1.4, and the wide stuff is with a Canon 17-40. I've got a Sigma 24-70 as well, but I don't believe any of those are examples from it.

Any chance you have a 1920x1200 version of this one?

You have some nice shots here. I wish I was somewhere more photogenic.

Any secrets to getting those good nighttime shots? Even with a fast lens I'm not confident I'd be able to manage without a tripod.

The stuff in the bar/club? Some of those were shot with an external flash, which freezes motion. The ones without flash were just taken with my steady hands. :) I've found I can shoot as slow as 1/30 at 50mm without terrible camera shake. Try to brace your elbow/shoulder on a wall or table while you're shooting in dark spots. It'll give you a little more leeway on shutter speeds. Too slow though and the subject will move too much.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I'll post up some more tonight.

OH god I hate photobucket. Sorry, I'll get it up tomorrow morning, I left my external at home again and don't have net there.
