I won an XP 2400+ at the City Of Industry, CA.

I had a great time except for an incident. There was a group of idiots causing trouble. One of them pushed me hard, snatched my hat off my head, and tossed my hat into the croud. He took off running. After someone identified him, I was walked over to confront him. I'd give him an opportunity to apologize. As I was approaching him I saw him doing the same thing. He kept sneaking up on people and pushing them really hard then bolted away. I finally caught up to the pus__ and at this point I was just going to drag him out of the convention center. If he wanted more then he could get that as well. The petrified little sissy girl bolted through the exits and was never seen. He had pushed about 15 people (these were violent pushes and not little shoves) and I heard he had slapped people on the escalators going in opposite directions as well (so they could not catch up to him). I am still fuming. I hope that someday someone kicks the crap out of him. It would be in his best interest because one day he will piss someone off who won't stop with a good can of woop ass and probably will put that little Bit__ in the hospital. The AMD folks really didn't have true security for the event. They were pretty rattled when they caught up to me as he ran out the emergency exits. I have 19" arms and move some serious weights at the gym. This punk had about as much chance as hurting me as a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contect. Do people like that ever get what is coming to them?

Also forgot to mention that I got a box of mints, a bag, and a nice meal in addition to the cpu that I won.

It looks like we in SoCal got screwed (or we screwed ourselves). There were at least 113 people in the VIP program (heard them count the forms) and I'm guessing close to 600 in the main event. I don't think anybody won 2 CPUs with the excetion of Jimmy ($2500 winner). I also have the sob story of having the number before me and after me called :(

I even took three friends to the VIP program, and between us all we got nothing but mints (except for the shirt/bag option). I managed to beg for a shirt because I was wearing a "tattered" AMD shirt from 1998 hehe.

Yes it was free, but the city where Newegg and so many other retailers are based and everything from Asia comes in at our ports, they should have upped the ante a bit.

Also the first group of BOTB people were "idiots" I can understand not knowing the cache sizes on the chip, but to not know what AGP stands for and to build a system is like me doing orthopedic surgery without knowing where the dens is.

hmm, was that you that was chasing the guy around? Before the battle of the boxes event... I saw some running around, and then he pushed some random guy into you? Or was that someone else? Anyways sucks to hear about that.

I saw that little pimple! My friend followed him out to his car and got his plates. I'm gonna have local Sherrif's office pay him a visit :) He knocked over that short white girl who had a pretty bad cut on her right elbow. If I ever see him in my OR he's not getting enough anesthesia :D

That was me that was chasing that little bastard and he pushed two people into me.... On top of that the guy that was dong the technical benchmarks and lectures said that the little bastard took his laser pointer. His whole group was out of control. The one friend of his was shouting all the answers during the Battle of the Boxes questions session. That guy was intoxicated pretty bad....When he walked by I could smell the alcohol on him. My guess is that group of idiots came for the purpose of disrupting the event. The rest of the group was loud and unruly. He was the only one that I saw phsycially harm people. If I was security I'd have tossed the whole group out before things went so far. He had so many compaints why didn't they just remove that group from the show....

You can PM if you need a witness. He was pushing people all night long. When I was talking to the so-called security, three other guys came up and said they had been shoved hard earlier. Also, a few people said they saw that punk slapping people on the elevators. I would like to see an Sherrif pay him a visit. Please do PM me if you need my contacti information. I can certainly give a great description of that piece of crap. The act that he committed was in fact battery on the people that didn't see it coming and assault and battery on the people that got shoved more than once like myself. If anyone also witnessed that please pm me any information (heck I'll take the plates too as I got some connections)....

I PMed my contact information to Colossus because he is the only one with information leading to the punk (his buddy got the plates to the vehicle) and I think he plans on notifying the authorities. If anyone else saw what happened I'd suggest you pm Colussus also.

Other than that incident I had a wonderful time. I went with two other people who didn't win and both them were very happy having been a part of the event. Only thing is I wish they would have moved the pace quicker as it was a very late ending for people that work the next day. There were many people complaining about the even and very negative. I think that is ashamed because everything there was free. While not everyone won a cpu or other item, there were certainly better odds than any of these contests online. Anyhow, I'll be there next year....

How much time did it take to build the systems? In San Jose they said that they're best time was 14min by both contestants; in KC I think.

Dallas, TX ???

So is anyone from the Austin area or elsewhere going to the Dallas event too? I was considering it, but being about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Austin, I don't know. I bet the Dallas event will be packed anyway, with less chances for everyone to win.

Wasn't that AzN girl almost like a stick? She hid behind the AMD sign most of the night. It was mess up that they ripped off that guy from the Battle of the Bots. I think they gave him a corupt version of Windows. He looked kinda pissed. At least they gave him $500.

None of those that got selected deserved to be in the battle of the box, if the contest was truely based on merit. That old man in the first batch looked like he hasn't seen the light for at least 20 years. Noone could answer the question about the L1 and L2 cache size... man, watching how the two final contestants going crazy with the hardware was funny tho. "omg that power cable got underneath the mobo *PULL HARD*"

Jimmy that idiot thought 128MB's enough for an XP box. That's just rediculous.

Albatron was handing out magnet stripes with the phrase "Intel Extreme Graphic" on them.

Another idiot thought it was funny to create a \[H\] Intel rox0rz y0ur b0x0rz desktop background on one of those comps...

Just wanted to state something about the battle of the boxes. Jimmy was looking at the board that had the prices instead of the price sheet that they gave him. The board had a price of $350 for a GF4 4600 which would have meant it was impossible to get that and ANY cpu which is why he went with a 4200. He should have won because of this and the fact that
he finished his box in about half of the time as the other guy.

That AMD woman was cute but way too skinny! I thought it was lame on how they gave away two bags just because you had an out-of-state license IMHO. I know people were stuffing the boxes with entry forms, I saw several people over there for more than ten minutes or returning several times. The dance contest was lame, need more women on stage!

I think the guy that lost the contest got ganked because they gave him a bad HDD/corrupt OS. Though I guess it evens out w/ the bad prices they gave the other guy.
I didn't win anything. :( :( :( :( :(
All in all I thought the event kinda sucked, I've never been to one of these before nor heard much about them. It was all to 'Ra Ra' PR hype and I was hoping for something more informative. At least Shuttle promised me nForce2 XPC in January and said 'for real this time.' Hope they stick to it.

Even though I didn't win anything (neither did my 3 other friends), we had fun, kind of. My friend was the last contestant of the dance contest doing the shake and the running man--he should have won. That girl couldn't dance worth shyt, blech. :disgust:

And damnit, i was picked for the Battle of the Boxes too, but i thought the rule was that you had to either be over 18, or have a guardian with you. Either way,

/me raises middle finger to all those who boo'ed me, asshhoolles

That asian chick was pretty hot, even though she was skinny and didn't have "goods."

Overall, it was alright, i s'ppose. It was sad to see people walk away with cpus that looked as if they didn't know what to do with them. Sorry, i'm just a bit grumpy. I knew i should have printed out my fake id that day :p

Actually, the prices were correct. The thing is, he chose 2 128MB sticks. People were thinking he got one 256MB stick, which was much more expensive..

And the Ti4200 wouldn't haven't done much in the benchmark they chose, which was PCMark. The 2200+ and 2x128MB would have swamped the 2000+ and 128MB Jimmy chose.

The prices were not correct on the main board for the 4600 (that's why they took it down when it was pointed out to them and also why they stated that the price was correct in the price sheet). If it was correct, why would they give the 4600 as an option if they only have $449 to spend and the 4600 was $350 and the cheapest AMD CPU was over $150?

I have two hats, two shirts, and some mints!
