I plan on going to the City of Industry event. I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it to drive 60+ miles just to go to this but it's something new and from reading the replies I'm going to bring along some stilts or maybe one of those yardsticks with sticky tape at the end to catch all the free stuff going around. :) I'm not sure how well I would do in the Build event, I have only built one system and that was an Intel. Do you build it from scratch? Do they have removable Mobo trays?

We must have been standing next to the same person, I was about 15-20 feet from the front of the stage in the middle. There was alot of annoying people in the crowd yelling the names of the people on stage trying to get their attention. I had to tell this one guy to STFU.

They had a nice AMD/Anandtech banner near the exit that I thought about liberating but then I realized I would have no where to brag about it since mentioning it here would definitely get me a long, long vacation.

Haha. yeah I was not far from the stage, just off to the left a bit. What was funny was when that guy behind me was yelling the answer and when he got it wrong the announcer made sure to point it out. Well let's hope I have better luck in NY!

Add me and my bro to da list for NY... never heard of that place in Brooklyn... I guess I'll ask some friends from the city about it. Driving da $Kitbox in... don't wanna rely on mass transit for this one.

Now and gotta read through this giant thread for questions and answers... whoohoo! :p

Got my processor (2200+) from the DC event today - FedEx Saver shipping.
No one called or anything to confirm address - I just got a bag with the processor and a crumpled "you've won" certificate. The proc itself was in horrible condition, looked like either A: FedEx dragged it behind the trunk a couple miles or B: Someone played hop-skoch on the package.

The proc inside the retail package looks ok I guess, doesn't help much for reselling it though... Ah well. Good stuff.

Is this really worth going? How many people usually shows up? The less, the better chances of winning. Tonight, in Minnesota.

I'm planning on being there tonight in mnpls. Maybe we need a secret 'handshake' or something to identify other AT HD forum members.

I am tall (6'4") and lanky with dark hair and I'll be wearing jeans and probably a grey hooded sweatshirt with a black ALT-CPU t-shirt on. Be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.

ALT-CPU is the alternative (other than Intel) processor group that I have inherited in the last year or so. It has been going on since 1995 or so. We recently moved to Yahoo Groups from Topica and have about 100 members world-wide. At one point, we designed and made our own shirts.

Do I have to get there at 7PM to be in on the re-seller stuff?

The event this evening in Minneapolis was SOOOOO gay it wasn't even funny. You couldn't hear $hit and too many drooling idiots seemed to get overly excited by crappy t-shirts and hats to the point of nearly trampling others.

well that sucked....waited in line (IN THE RAIN) for half an hour and didn't win anything. BOTH THE F*CKTARDS put the floppy cables in backwards so all they got was $100+pib. jeez, the second guy had like 5 minutes to double check everything just to make sure it would boot but no. what a joke, the people didn't belong on stage.

Oh well, atleast i got 2 bags a t-shirt and a book.... so now free plug for ejovi:

I just got back from the NYC event...I could have sworn that they said it was supposed to start at 8, so there we are, standing out in the cold rain and some AMD dude comes out and tells us the "Partners" hour is from 7:30 to 8:30. I dragged a friend who lives in Brooklyn within walking distance of the Lunatorium with me. I live in Queens, btw. Anyway, his working hours are much earlier than mine, so he could only stay for an hour or so, plus the hour we stood outside (doh!).

What did I think? Well, let's just say I wouldn't do it again. But, if I were 20 years old, it would be another story, I guess.

I did win an XP-2200 at the very end of the night. Woo hoo! I also snagged a hat, which I gave to my friend 'cuz he braved the lousy weather and loss of sleep to go to this thing. They gave away about 52 or so of the cpu/fan combos. I think they were all 2200's. So, definitely grateful for that. Then, the long F train home....

The 2 guys in the build-the-box contest both screwed up the floppy cable, so neither copped the big prize. Dudes, every floppy drive I've ever had has the red stripe on the data cable oriented exactly opposite of what the hard drive cables are. I don't know if that's always the case, but it sure was tonight.
One of the builders was too funny...he started putting the cards in while the motherboard was still out of the case. People couldn't believe it. I guess it can be done, but why would you?

The other guy finished his in plenty of time, but had a tough time getting the case cover off. Everyone was laughing at that.

As for the questions...they ran the gamut of AMD stuff and some generic geek stuff. Like "what does VGA" stand for?
Another was "how many pins on the new Opteron processor?" I think it was 950 something or other. Definitely a couple of "let's slap Intel" questions. One was an "all of the above"; it had about 8 choices (a, b, c, d...h) "What does SCSI stand for?" "What is the default IRQ of Com3?" "What does PCMCIA mean?" and some other AMD-related questions.

12:45 am and I have to get up at 6:30...

They should have given away 2400's at least, no? Oh well...I can't complain.
