Haha
I had to laugh too when I saw that it was gonna be in Nations. I also thought that they were gonna do the whole parking lot camp session again and envisioned a bunch of computer geeks and their family members sitting outside in the freezing cold of southeast DC with people offering to sell glow stix and these funny little pills that make you feel really happy.
Priceless...
However, they are doing it indoors this year so that's a plus in comparison to freezing your ass off up at White Marsh outside of Baltimore.

Hmm, the oppurtunistic thieves could have a pretty good pick-pocketing, car jacking, and/or gun-point robbing scam if they realize what is happening early monday morning.
My advice to any one like me who is heading out there and camping out for a while: bring nothing of value with you and try to take the metro.

In regards to the sniper, I dont think he would want to come down to that part of DC to do his evil deed. Some unfortunate stuff might happen to him if he's caught by the locals of that area

I also registered for the Philly one too since my parents live up there. I only got a tshirt last year but I'm feeling hopeful for this year.

Hell, a good friend of mine drove from HARTFORD CT. WHATS UP WITH THAT. Other people i saw were like 45 years olds and families with thier little newborns and 1/2 years olds in 30 degree weather at 4:30 am. Im not trying to put people down but some people need to get lives and a little puntang on the said rather than bringing thier kids and even laptops with shiza written on them like " INTEL SUX" THATS right, i saw our ass with that laptop.

PS. Since im back at school, ill probably go, but thier will be thousands there this time right?

PHILLY ROCKS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading this post I begrudgingly admit that I go to Drexel, also. :p I'm on co-op for these six months but I'll stay over with some friends the night before and drag them out with me if it's early.

So I'll be at the Philly stop.

I hope everyone read the rules:
To win you can either
Option one register online, one per person/email. drawing at 12/30/02 for 50 cpu (cpu & HSF) and 250 AMD T-shirt (AMD Me?)
Option two when register online also check the event you will like to go, this will speed up the process when entering the event. (indoor, i guess you better reg before you go there) Inside, there will be like a road show, have demo etc. But same only 35 CPU & HSF will be out (no motherboard, a nforce2 will be nice...) and a final Grand price (same CPU & HSF) will be draw for all the attendent at 12/30/02.
Option three
At the event (may have to enter at the event) 10 "lucky" people will play out the "Battle of Boxes", basically is a system-building contest, and the price is cash. They will have to answer some tough question until last 2 stand. Then build a box and benchmark it.... So anyone don't know how to build a PC, don't enter. :)

Option four
Also, those Channel Partners will get sweepstakes invitaitioin via email to the event will be able to enter at the event to one of the box (?), 10 CPU & HSF will be hand out.

BTW, when you reg. you have to Print out the form and bring it with you to the event.

I went to the Atlanta event last year - drove up from Macon with a co-worker. I got a mug but that was all. :(

I'll try and go this year if I can arrange it with work. We said it was a techie event (job related) so they didn't mind us coming to work late. Hope it works again this year.

What's the closest stop? Isn't there a stop at the Navy Yard?

this year's event has this new thing that sounds pretty neat, called battleof th eboxes
sounds like they select 10 people from the crowd and give them a bunch of parts, then have them build a computer within an allotted time limit and then benchmark them

i was in dallas last year and won a processor and board...along w/ snagging a tshirt :)
this year i will am working in nashville during the week so wont be able to go again :(

I went to one of those last time.... It was the lamest thing I coulda done at 5, 6 am(whenever it was held). Freeze my ass off, scratch my eyes, be surrounded by buncha guys screaming because they're excited to be part of this AMD promo. That was fun.
rolleye.gif
It's undesirable on many levels because it was way too damned early to go anywhere, and there were only guys there. It sucked. I'm not ready to dis AMD for giving away free CPUs, but what kind of stupidass marketing A-holes comes up with an idea to wake up buncha guys early in the morning and gather them around in a place where there are no girls? Of course, I went, so I'm obviously the type of dork/dumbass they're targeting....

i dont know where you went to, but the one i went to had a lot of girls surprisingly...i was expecting very few

besides -- amd was looking to promote this through the geek community. theyre not egtting anywhere on the retail front, its enthusiasts that keep amd alive right now. i think the marketing gimmick was a success

Hopefully they'll announce more dates, because I'm not driving down to austin for a drawing. At least they wised up and prolonged it into daytime this year. Maybe they actually reach people other than nerds that hang on BBS's.

If I'm lucky they might add a grand prize like last year so I can win it again.:D
