Went to san jose event.. it sucked big time.. not only did i win nothing.. my car got broken into. Stole my discman, cellphone chargers, hubcaps and also pulled off my rear view mirror. Funny how it got broken into.. in a HOTEL PARKING LOT. GOT ME REALLY PISSED.

just got back from SJ event, my gf got a nice cpu. the vip event was the best, free food and drinks, got some info on hammer I didn't know about.

the battle of the boxes was soooooooooo sad! it was really depressing watching those 2 guys "build" I know it's hard under pressure and all but one guy almost unscrewed the hardrives when the case had a removable cage. *sigh*

anyway, happy with the cpu we did win! tks amd!!

p.s. where were you guys when they called out anandtech? I counted 3 freakin' ppl, including myself that attempted to make some kind of noise.

Yikes I'm sorry to hear. That really sucks. 🙁

Yeah that really sucks.. 🙁 wow hubcaps too..damn that's pretty lame. like WTF..who takes hubcaps. Did you park at the back of the doubletree lot?

Yeah it didn't seem like they gave 57 processors away. I didn't win anything but came away with the bag since I registered as a Channel Partner. But I thought the VIP event food sucked. I mean c'mon just 3 selections for hot food- potstickers, pork buns, and meatballs- this is like happy hour food. THe dessert was okay. I thought they would at least splurge on the Silicon Valley folks since they are close to their HQ. Yeah way too much pumping up of the AMD "speed trap"..almost like a cult meeting. Oh well I may not go for the next one.

PagannagaP

yeah, i saw the host calling security on these couple guys, but I didn't know why? what happened anyways? it seems like the guys were trying to climb up the stage or something.

again, I thought the second round trivia was kinda lame, I think only two of them really knows computer, one of them just started guessing abcd every question (the yahoo girl), and the rest just chilled waiting for their free processor, wished I got draw, never have luck with these drawings.

Yea, I didn't think the floppy drive error was going to happen since I heard it happened at the other events. That's the one thing I made sure I knew before going. The questionaire was a joke. Someone that didn't know anything about AMD could've guessed those questions right.

Poor girl that worked for Yahoo. She was busy trying to get the answers from her friends in the crowd that she missed some basic questions.

Anyways, overall, good event. I wish I won a CPU =(

Yea, either way they won a free CPU/shirt/hat/bag.. lucky bastards.
It would've been cool to see that Yahoo girl build a system.

I just got back from San Jose too. All I got was a AMD pen and 3 packs of Mint, everyone near me was alot taller so cap and t-shirt never reach me,, I did see a wallet on the floor, so if you lost your wallet talk to AMD cause they have it.,
oh I think they only gave away 36 CPUs instead of the 54 or 57 that they stated in the beginning. They lower the price amount too this time to $100 instead of the $500 else where.. For the triva game, did all 10 of them get a cpu? by the looks on their face they only got t-shirt and cap.

I feel sorry for the Mike fong dude cause he could of win,, the floopy drive error is a very tipical error. The other guy can't remember his name really took his time and has help from his friends from the croud and I think he even look at Mike's completed system for couple of secs, yet came up with the same errror,, are both drive or cable defecive,, cause I didn't see another boot up.. I did ejoy the little dance and pull up contest.. 4 male and 1 nice female, which would you yell for??

i was going to yell out anandtech along with my friend but the speaker with the mic said anantech very softly so we missed our chance. 🙂

well, no cpu but 3 packs of mint,, seems fair.😉

HappyNic,
I'm the dance contest girl, just a fellow anandtecher. I would like to personally thank you and all the other hormonal guys out there who made it possible for me to win the dance contest. Didn't win a processor though
🙁

did u guys count the 10 cpus given to the 10 contestants? and 10 more at the vip event.

the two guys were trying to jump on stage i think, they were in the right corner of the stage, the host looked pretty pissed.

HappyNIC,

I think all contestants got a CPU, that's what the host said.

I am thinking the same thing too, how could so many ppl mess up the floppy cables. I know the orientation is confusing sometimes (I miss plugged it many times b4), but how could ppl keep messing it up, oh well.

dealCHICK, nice dancing!! it was one of the few parts of the night which I enjoyed. They should've give you a cpu=P

I just shot off an email to Kyle from hardocp to ask about the dallas event and bam..

Linky, man the Dallas event is going to ROCK! And I can meet Anand!

And of course I think this is a plot from Kyle to piss of Angel Munoz of CPL which of course is going on at the same time about a little over a mile away. But anyway goto CPL, goto hardware workshop/AMD event. Man any self respecting nerd who can make it should come to Dallas for a good 5 days of computing bliss.

Wooohooo! 😀

Gotta love these XPP events! Won the 1800+/mobo combo in SF last year - Went down to S.J. tonight with two friends, and we walked out with two 2400's !!! Can't wait til the next one. Wonder if they'll do a second round, like they did last time?

For those of you that are interested, I was the BIG guy walking around with the HardOCP shirt on.

Yes, it was somewhat boring, but for us it was worth the drive.😀

My friend had the number 10888
and I they called out the number 10889 TWICE. Whoever has that number won 2 CPUs, lucky bastard.

I had 12790
They called out 12709 and 12970
DAMN WHAT THE!!!! I WAS GONNA THROW A ROCK AT THE GUY.

I didn't win anything either, just got a t-shirt and a whole bunch of mints. Started to get kind of bored by the time they started the second round of trivia so I ended up spending the latter half of the event hacking (that's hacky sack hacking) towards the back of the room with a couple other folks.

I thought they'd still have a 1st and 2nd place finish for the battle of the boxes, instead both guys only made off with $100 and their CPUs.

Saw the 4 of you hacky sacking in the back.

Anyways, yeup.. should've gave everyone something so everyone would've been happy. Instead of giving out $2500 to the winner (which there was none), they should have gave everyone a free t-shirt with that money.

Just a reminder:
If you can, go to the VIP event BEFORE the main event- you at least get fed, some more freebies, and a much better IMO chance to win a processor
You have to register at AMD.com to get the "invite"

yep just go to the "sell amd products" link at the amd.com website and look for the Reseller channel link on the left side of the screen. Then click on the link Under the "You are invited to an exclusive VIP event." That printout got me in. I couldn't find the registration link for reseller in the amdrealitycheck.com web site. yeah I think they draw 10 processors for the VIP before everyone else gets to go in.

I was right in front of the two guys who got thrown out. I think one of them pushed the other one forward towards the stage and he stumbled into some people and one of the fancy lights by the stage. The announcer came over saw who it was and had security called over and had them both chucked out.

I thought it was a pretty cheap event; no food, meagre amount of prizes and they didn't even give the guy who finished first the $2500 even though they both made the same mistake. I took one look at the pitiful stands and didn't bother. I think it sucks that one person can come away with two processors, instead of having three separate boxes to pull names from they should of just had one. Then again I'm just bitter 'cos I left with jack.

Sucks that your car got broken into 🙁

Will they check if your business is legitimate?

Actually, I think you could win up to five processors at the event. One from each of the three raffle boxes and two for winning the battle of the boxes. Just thinking that winning two wasn't that extreme. Now, if they won the battle of the boxes AND one of the raffle CPUs, that would be something.

🙂

D. (I won two (BOTB))

Hi Guys,

I went to the San Jose event at the DoubleTree hotel last night. I got there around 9.30, so I missed the first round of CPU giveaways. I just about dropped off my raffle ticket stubs in the boxes and within a couple of mins, they started calling out the winners. Guess what I was the first one to be called out. I won within about 5 mins of being there!

I was in too much shock to yell/scream.. just walked to the prize counter and picked up the CPU. It was XP 2400+ w/ heat sink but no mobo. Last year they were giving away Gigabyte GA 7 DX mobos along with the CPUs. Looks like they've tightened their wallets.

Anyways, I was there with my wife and I had a chance to win again, but I felt that it won't be right to pick up another CPU and I walked out. I won on 10684 and I walked out on 10925 (don't know if that won 🙂

The funny incident that happended was that somebody in the crowd was yelling "throw more free crap" and the AMD guy said "sorry we don't give out free *crap*". I thought that was funny!

Nah..I don't think they will. It would help to have a business card though. As always YMMV 'cause there were probably locals working the show at San Jose since it was close to HQ.

Looking at all the free stuff Hardocp.com is giving away, AMD should be ashamed. I'm thinking that even though they're doing 20 shows, AMD is looking at sales of $700 million this quarter.

Plus if you go to Hardocp you won't have to listen to all the marketing BS 😉
