It's Back!!! AMD Extreme Performance Project '02! **Now Added Dallas**

My friend went to the Chicago show and said it was super lame. Almost no giveways and all the guys in the botb messed up their floppy cables and lost. Even after the first two guys did it the last guy did the same exact mistake. I realize that there is an inherent amount of stress but come on. When you see two other people make the same mistake? Unfortunately I don't live close enough to any of these places and none of these cool contests come to Ohio. Good luck to those who attend and represent Anandtech well.

ummm... Seattle event cancelled... yeah... That's the ticket!

I imagine with all the MS people, there will be a HUGEmongous crowd there - so I'm not counting on winning anything. Oh well. I'm wearing my AMD shirt I won at a UT tourney at Compucare last year (when they still had a store in Bellevue).

Hope to see fellow ATers there.

😀

LMAO! I can't believe people are driving more than an hour to get to the Seattle event.
From what I heard, last year was a nightmare so I can just imagine how bad it's gonna be this year.
But hey, I'm only 20 minutes away so what the hell 😛.

Ugh, to go or not to go.... Last year was awful, like 2000 people showed up. Will Hoss tempt fate? If he can fix his flat tire, I guess.

Filth and damnation. 2 years, each year I'm ONE frickin' number off... "2...0....7...3 (oh lord, let it be 3) ........ 2 (sh!t.)

Now back to the world of actively not looking for work.

Hey, just got back from Seattle. All in all it was a fantastic show, lots of enthusiasm and a great time was had by most. Two of my buddies won processors, I scored 3 hats and a T-shirt and lots of mints. Oh yeah, and some food. There were definately 2400+ retail chips being given out. The AMD girls were all cute too, and did a good job quarterbacking the freebies. One dude won 3 processors AND the $2500 prize!! Us: "So, it looks like somebody slashed your tires...if you'd like a ride, we're accepting processors." Him: "No." 😀 And whoever dissed on the music at previous ones, this one wasn't bad. They played Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pearl Jam, Neil Young, and even a little Def Leppard. Some of the contestents had to dance to win prizes, or do pushups. It was pretty dorky for the most part, but fun. I also noticed the AMD vs. Intel display where there were 2 computers set up for GTA3 and the intel one had i845 onboard VGA vs. the AMD with Nforce. Yeah.... Didn't recognize any ATOTers there, but lots of infotech folks and some other buddies. Good times, good times!

I was only a couple off on a few of them too. Crappy deal, but I would had to have won 2 of them to upgrade my setup anyway, so no biggie.

Well, I went to Seattle event. Pretty cool. Courtney is a fvckin hottie!!!! Battle of the boxes was alright. First dood finished really quick, then they knocked him cuz he had lost/missed one screw on the mobo. Meanwhile the other guy was slow as hell cuz he had lost a screw too. He ended up finishing with 30 seconds left. But the first guy ended up winning. My buddy met up with a friend of his on his team from work. After chattin with him, turns out he's Kano and frequents the boards!!!

SO anyway, buddy had 06155, I had 06158 and Kano had 06160. They gave out 15 procs, then 9, then 5, then 3 more. So only 32 total. So much for "a ton" of processors.....I won last year, and my buddy was pissed! They called me (the number after him) and the number before his!!

Anyway, I got 4 t-shirts, gave one to both Kano and my friend, and 2 hats (gave one away)........AND MY NUMBER WAS THE LAST ONE CALLED OUT!!!! I had pretty much given up and had gone to the back of the room to cool down and play some games when they called out my number! I was hardcore in to the Arkanoid clone playing on one of the machines too 😀

So, of course a week after going thru a change from a AXP 1800 rig to my current P4 2.53ghz rig, I win a new proc. Needless to say, based on these two things:

1. AMD Gives out FREE STUFF
2. Intel offers a great deal on P4+mobo....to RETAIL employees only....then takes their sweet time fullfilling it

I'm selling my P4 and mobo and heading back to AMD. 🙂

Thanks AMD and AT for putting this thread up!!!!!

Yeah, you're right... I was there 😛
so... uhhh... you shop at infotech often? how you know infotech folks? I wonder if you know me 😛

😱 I'M THE GUY THAT LOST THE SCREW - AND $2500

I lost the $2500 becuase a damned screw came out - I was in a big hurry, so I didn't make sure the mboard was square on the tray, so all the screws were slightly crooked - after I finished, the bottom right one popped right out. Hard to live with losing that much money, when I had PLENTY of time to go back and rescrew everything down - the other guy (Greg) had barely started, becuase he dropped a screw into the case and it got stuck, so he had to take the whole thing apart. I'M STILL KICKING MYSELF - CAN'T GO TO SLEEP - I LOST $2500!!!!

Well.... A bag, a hat, a shirt, a bunch of mints, an Athlon XP2200+, an Athlon XP2400+, and $500 (for second prize) wasn't a TOTAL loss. Still, I'll be kicking myself for a long time. But Greg seemed like a good guy - he deserved to win - he said he'd use it on college money, which is more noble than what I would have used it for.

(Incidentally, the judge guy, named Joe, said he would have let 1 screw slide, no problem, but the Aussie guy had the mic, so he disqualified me - DAMNIT!)

And FYI - Courtney, the cute girl, is local - as the AMD Realitycheck moves around the country, they use a international talent agency to get girls in the city they happen to be in - she didn't know squat about computers, though.

😕

Well I ended up going to Seattle & actually had a good time hanging with a couple of my friends.
I have to agree with 'BatmanNate' the music wasn't too bad & a couple of the chicas were pretty cute.
However I didn't win a proc 🙁 but I did manage to snag one of their sweet 'Messenger BAGS' (which they seemed pretty stingy with), about 4 T-shirts(2 I gave to my buddies), a hat, a bunch of mints & some munchies. Not bad for free!😀
BTW, Chili you did have tons of time-shoulda triple checked all that $hit! Oh well, you made out pretty good anyway dude.

Aww man, I stopped paying attention. I thought they gave it to you Mark 🙁 You should've had it, Greg was so lost!!!

So, at the beginning, didn't the aussie dood say they were giving out 2200+ procs? Cuz I got a 2400+.....

"The other guy obivously never built a box as he was trying to put in the graphics card in before installing the MB. You should have seen as he was attempting to use his entire body wait to force the card in not realizing the tab for the AGP slot... I think he busted the tab. "
-that 4600 is huge. the problem was it was catching on the ram tab that i didnt see, and it overlapped the ide cables. i did that not once, but twice. the assistant guy seemed to think it was funny.

"I do this all the time... and I'm sure everyone have done it as well. That is why my current box does not have a floppy. And being on stage, with everyone screaming at you makes it that much harder. But they did have plenty of time and should have double checked their work"
-honestly, when i build a cpu i dont care if it boots in one shot. the whole contest was kinda silly to me. i guess thats why im into software. but it was still real fun, and afterwards i got to be a local celebrity for a short time. one of you guys squeezed the crap out of my hand before getting on the uptown subway. next time maybe you will be up there, and hopefully you'll win.

-matt

That was me at the front of the stage yelling that you are busting the tab on the AGP slots!!! Anyway, It was fun and I couldn't say i would have done it any better! Let's see what they have up there sleeve next year.

Actually, I do believe it. What could be more perfect than a kick to the junk while I'm down. Well, back to my PIII-450. No AMD-lovin' for Hoss

I still shop there once in awhile, however I'm more of an old schooler. I used to go there a lot when James and Josh still worked there. I think the only one that I know that still works there is Tim. Didn't know any of you guys frequented the boards though. :Q

They also gave away 10 processors to the resellers and 10 to the contestents of the jeopardy game thing. So 52, not 32. I'd say that's a decent amount, there was just a lot of people there.

Doh! Forgot about the 10 jeapordy peeps. I was up front cheering/hecklin Wing Wong like hell!!!! 😀 He let me down!!! He was supposed to go all the way!!!

Hey, looking at your profile it looks like we're from the same town. Maybe I've run into you and didn't know it, I've already met one other Auburn guy in FS/FT that ended up living like a block away when we were working out shipping for a deal.
