One place I was renting many years ago I had to use the on premise washer and dryers, they had two of each in each building and there were about 10 buildings in the community. Each building was 4 stories and was probably about maybe 100 apartments total, so good amount of demand on the weekends considering that.

There were plenty of times I'd go to use the washer and there would be done clothes in the washer and dryer. I'd give it maybe 30 mins and come back and shit would still be there so eventually I'd just throw the shit on top of the machine and start my stuff.

A number of times I saw others would just throw it on the floor, which I always thought was a dick move to be an asshole to an asshole, but whatever.

When I was in college we had 6 washers and 8 dryers for I think about 300 guys? IIRC the etiquette was you only used two washers and dryers unless the place was pretty much empty. And if someone left their clothes in the washer or dryer you would at least give them some time to return before you took them out and put them in a basket.

When I was in college, I'd do laundry on the weekends at like 2am. I didn't sleep till 5am anyway. It was the best time to do it... our building also had 4/4.

Also hate how some people toss their load into the dryer then leaves it there for hours after it's done. I take them out and put them on top of the dryer so I can use it and they bitch at me when they come to get them... Assholes.

The only problem I have with laundry in my dorm is people who don't take their laundry out soon enough after the end of the cycle. Fortunately this has a simple solution: I remove the finished laundry from the washer or dryer and nicely put it on top for the owner to retrieve.

To answer the OP's question: if I have 4 washers worth of laundry (hot, warm, cold, and my comforter, for example) then I will use all 4 washers. But I will also be there promptly to take it out. Dryers aren't a problem, because my dorm has a 1:2 ratio of washers to dryers, and I usually condense two washer loads into one high-heat dryer load.

That's a strange argument. Do you think it's a douche bag move to intentionally park your car across 3 spaces just because no one else was using them when you got there?

This argument is flawed. It would be appropriate if the guy only threw in a few articles of clothing into each washer. To make your argument apply here, you'd have to ask, "If I were somehow able to drive 3 cars at once, and find 3 parking spaces that no one was using, would I take up all 3 spots?" And to answer that, damn right I would.

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be polite to leave one machine open just in case, but the flip side is "I have 4 loads of laundry to do, there are 4 machines so if I do it all at the same time then it will be done faster".

Then again I think the more important question is: why the hell do you wait to have 4+ loads of laundry? Besides it's college, you have one load of non-whites and a second load of whites right? :p

whites and non-whites? uh....
:p

yes.

but also the whole having 4 loads of stuff to do, that's just like... wow. I guess one could be towels, which I usually just do at a different time so as to not require 3 washers, or worse, have to wait for 3 to be available. Most people often do one or two loads, so it's easy to get two people on the washers, 2 on the dryers.
Sounds kinky now that I write it.

When someone leaves their stuff in the dryer for two long, here's what you do. You fold it up for them all nice and neat, but you leave a note deep in the stack that says, "I cleaned up my jizz with one of your shirts, bet you can't guess which one!" The beauty here is that they may not find the note until 3 or 4 days after the wash. They'll never leave their wash unattended again.

*note that actually jizzing into the clothes is not necessary for success.
