It's Alive!!

OK, not a big impressive cruncher like a lot of you are running, but I finally got the IBM Netfinity 5000 server that I obtained from Networkman (thanks, NWM!) up and running! 😀

Dual PII450mhz, 128MB ECC PC100 RAM, 4.3G SCSI HD, 32x CD-ROM, built in NIC and S3 VID.

I got the CPUs off eBay yesterday, but didn't find a stick of RAM around here that worked until today. Swiped a VRM off of another dual slot 1 MB, and everything booted up just fine. 🙂

It's now sitting on my wokbench running SETI. 😀

It's going to be a test bed/learning/refresh my memory of Win2K Server setup and configuration.

Nice little machine you got there! 😀

Should run Windows 2000 quite nicely with a little more memory (remember that Seti x2 will be using 32mb of that!)

Confused

Sounds like a nice little server. 🙂

NWM, if you're reading this, whatever happened to that 8-way Xeon board that you mentioned one time? Did you get that up and running? Pics? 😛

Cool! I never had a dually! So, it sounds like you have a copy of 2k Server, if not I can send you a trial copy. It works for 90 days, then you have blow it away and start over. Great practice! 🙂

Those are Xeon IIs, eh? They should do around 10hrs/WU I think.

I don't think they are Xeons 🙁 just standard PII 450mhz, 512K cache CPUs. But they should do better than the Cely 366, PII266, and P200 I have running. 🙂

And JWM, I don't need a copy of Win2K server. But thanks for the offer. 🙂 (one of the perks of MrFluffy attending school, he got a bunch of MS software for free, and I get to use whatever he doesn't need at the time. 🙂 )
