It's a Razor Blade conspiracy I tell you!

I have noticed that every time Gillette comes out with a new razor the previous razors new blades no longer work as well.
For about 6 months my Mach3 has been performing poorly and the blades wearing out quickly.
I tried the new Fusion and it is great.
But I remember the same thing happening when they first brought out the Mach 3. What I was using before (can't remember the name) was suddenly performing poorly and the Mach 3 worked great.
Its a conspiracy.

there's nothing wrong with your blade. don't fall into the 'more blades = bigger pen!s size' game.

Still using the Mach 3 here, in fact I dropped it and broke it so I got a new one the Mach 3 Turbo and don't have any issues.

I buy cheap disposable razors, those name brand "lawn mower" razors are such a rip off. The cheap ones work better too.

I believe what you are saying is completely true. My father in law was told by a Gillette rep buddy of his that they purposely make the older blades not last as long so you have an extra incentive to upgrade to the new ones, which of course always cost more.

My FIL is not a guy who just makes sh1t up.

The skeptic in me doesn't want to believe this, but I, too, have anecdotal evidence to support this. I wasn't even aware of the m3 turbo when it came out, but suddenly noticed that the m3's weren't shaving well.

More recently, after the fusion was advertised but had yet to hit Wal-Mart shelves (Wal-Mart, how I hate thee, let me count the ways... but they are cheap for crap like this), I noticed two consecutive packs of m3 power cartidges that could not even touch my skin.

I still doubt that they do this intentionally, but I think there is a conscious pull-back on QA when ramping up a new product line at Gillette. I just acquired a brush and shave soap, which has improved my shave so much I'm going back to the original m3 blades. Next week I'll know if the blades truly are still inferior....

Something similar happened to me. I went to a standard safety razor with derby/feather blades and now the mach 3 blades seem like crap! Conspiracy!!!

That's it exactly. An "unbiased" source (my girlfriend) started telling me how I had stubble even right after I shaved and that was never the case before.

Nope, the manufacturing plant is the same now as it was before perhaps even better for the mach3 and turbo and power. Ive been down to the floor. Only arguement you might make is for the sensor products which are no longer being manufactured here in the USA. You get them mostly from Gillette Brazil.

It would be too expensive for them to lessen the quality of their older blades since the automation is so pricy and they cannot afford to design new machines to produce less quality blades.

FWIW, i never liked the mach 3 shave. And I found out why, but thats under NDA :/

For me, Turbo and m3power ftw. I never liked the 5 bladed design either.

I was thinking they could just change the alloy in the blades if they wanted to degrade the Mach 3. Simple to do and no one would know.
