so in between championing the poor to suck up to the prof in my social psych class, this came to mind:

i have an older fridge with passive coils on the back. if i run a fan over the back of the fridge, will the increase in efficiency more than offset the fan's electricity draw? assume it's just a normal fan and it's on all the time.

as i'm typing this, i remembered newer fridges have fans of their own... but they only come on when the fridge is cycled on.

I don't know why, but this came to mind:
I need some advice on what could be a life changing decision.

I've suspected for some time now that my girlfriend has been having an affair. The usual signs: Phone rings, I answer, caller hangs up. She started going out 'with the girls' a lot recently although when I ask which girls, it is always "Just some friends from work, you don't know them." I always look out for her taxi coming home, but she always comes walking up the driveway as I hear a car setting off...as if she had exited the car 'round the corner. Why? Is it not a taxi? I once picked her mobile up just to see what time it was and she went berserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her?

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my g/f. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth but last night she went out again and I decided to check on her. I decided I was going to hide behind my car which would give me a view of the whole street so I could see which car she gets out of. It was whilst crouched behind my car that I noticed rust around my rear wheel arch.

Should I take it into a body repair shop or should I buy some stuff from the local auto shop and try to repair it myself?

yes it will cut down on the length of time it takes to cool off the fridge, but not by much.
just keeping them clean is a good idea and clean the compressor also and improve ventilation under there.
also check the seals on the fridge that they are clean and sealing tight.
fill the fride with jugs of water in any empty space to help keep it cold when you open it.
make a list of all the items inside the fridge and what shelf they are on so you dont have to stand with the door open and look.
plan meals so you only open it 2 times, once to take stuff out and once to put it all back.

and always keep the fridge level.

helpful hints-
in case of power outage keep a few jugs of water frozen in the freezer. transfer them to the fridge to keep the food cold.

ill edit this and add more later.

IIRC to increase the efficiency based on the Carnot heat engine model one must increase the difference in temperatures.

In this case, the hotter the coils are (the heat being pulled from the fridge) the more efficient the process.

Heat always travels from hot to cold.

Your fan would coil the coils, allowing the air to suck the heat out of them. As a result, the air would help suck the heat from the fridge faster.

The calculations are probably numerous...
