mmm, austin was all icey tonite. driving was fun! went into several skids, knew how to handle car, etc. some idiot almost ran into me while changing lanes (idiot didnt even see i was there, i was lit up like a beacon). except for that, was fun.

It snowed about 4" in early 1985. I was stationed at Bergstrom, didn't expect it to snow in Austin. It shut down everything.

Yep, got that nasty white crap on the ground in Dallas too, 24 degrees & freezing sleet.
Hey, I didn't know you were here in Dallas!

You-all wouldn't believe how truly scary it is to drive on the freeways here when it's icy. I could do it backwards @ 30 mph (grew up in the Dakotas & got lots of practice) down here, it turns into SUV Bumper Car Hell with a tiny bit of ice on the road.
ROTFL! I was born in New Hampshire, so I know what you mean...

They have been saying on the radio all day on 1080 that those of you with SUVs and 4 wheel drive need to remember that doesn't help it stop, so give plenty of room.

I drive a Suburban, and I finally gave the anti-lock breaks a real workout. I felt them activate at least a dozen times today.

All those soccer moms in mini vans with cell phones glued to their head just freaking slam into anything that's foolhardy enough to venture out on the road.... AAAARRRGGGHHHHH
LOL! I must say, they seemed to be well behaved today, didn't see a single wreck.

I'm glad Thumper didn't have to work tonight, and she's not going in tomorrow, too far to drive in this crap. I'll go over and see her tomorrow, keep her company, light a fire in the fire place, wrap up in a blanket... Mmmm....

I am in Arlington, and yup, sucks big time.

I discovered that most drivers fall into one of two categories: those that do not change their driving habits at all in foul weather, and those that over-compensate and cause my danger by driving too timidly.

Earier, I was behind one lady and my speed was around 8mph and I had to stop every so often so I wouldn't rear-end her. But no other cars around, and sure road conditions weren't great but not that bad.

Then I saw the idiot in some S-10 who tried to take off at a red light, and his back wheels spun, and spun, and spun, and spun . . .
All the other people driving pickups didn't seem to have a problem though.

-16 apparently right now (celsius)

man this cold refuses to go away.

I have been in Houston when it snowed or iced. Being on the road was scary because drivers were not slowing down, Wait that is how people drive in bad weather here in the NYC metropolitan area.

All colleges and school districts in the DFW area are shut down tomorrow. Its hilarious there were 200 wrecks that were weather related before there it really started. I guess these same people that dont drive that well in winter weather are the same that drive 90 in heavy rain.

It was 29F here in San Antonio when I came home at 6 and I take the bus so not only did I feel the cold, it was also raining cats and dogs. I had to walk close to a mile in the rain waiting under various things when the rain started to pick up (it was always at least at a heavy drizzle). I really hope another day doesn't come like this again.

well most people in pick-ups now to wiegh down the bed of the truck for ice. When i had my truck, i'd toss the motorcycle ramp, and a few bags of sand in the back.

Man, ppl here in austin, simply do NOT know how to drive in winter weather conditions. It's common sense! Don't do any sudden lane changes or anything like that! Geez, more than one moron has tried doing that while on the highway, losing control and swerving uncontrollably. Idiotas. :disgust:

It's okay if you have 4 wheel drive though!

Well I made it home!
Took me 1 hour.
Quite fun...
Took me an hour and half to get to work with all the other cars this afternoon.
Gotta love driving down the middle of the highway and running those pesky stop signs and traffic lights...
Good night!

even tho it was sleeting, i saw an outdoors show Interpol put on at Emos. the balls of ice were for in case the opening act(s) sucked :-D

A girl IMed me at 7 am telling me that classes were cancelled until 11am ( I forgot to turn sounds off and that DING woke me up ). Now it's cancelled all day. Hooray!

It's 13 degrees here....10-12 inches of snow on the ground depending on what part of the city you are in.....and tomorrow we are due to get another 3 inches of snow.

I am so unhappy about this weather! I have to go to Austin-Bergstrom this afternoon, and it does not seem to be warming up enough to melt the ice...grrrrrr :frown:

I thought this type of weather was behind me when I moved from Kansas...see what I get for thinking! 😀

hellz yes! classes are cancelled through the day!

i was so looking forward to driving too =( (no, really...)

i actually enjoy dangerous driving conditions, but that's just me.
