Well... back when I was at Auburn they had a system called the Tiger Club card (still do I'm assuming). Every vending machine on campus and many of them off campus had a card reader on it. Swipe your card, grab a coke, snack, coffee, whatever.
 
With the prices coke and pepsi are charging now for a single 20oz soda they might start taking ccards only in the future.
