Legally there are ordnances against barking dogs. I tried this civil way and it was ineffective. They said they had to have three complaints before coming out and issuing a citation. So the boards separating our yards loosened and those dogs attacked me and you can guess what happens next. I am still here his viscous dogs are not. The cops came out and issued him a citation for having animals on the lose and no city permit.

I was young like 23 then...I would not do that today. Caused major animosity between me and my neighbors. My roommate at the time moved out because of it. Basically just go the slow and legal way and get a ipod or something till legal process works and they shut up...

My ex nrighbors had 2 husky that barked on and 7 days a week.

I talked to them several times and they said they didnt hear them but would try to hush them.

They woke us up several times a night and would growl and charge the fence when we were doing yard work.

Nothing changed and I contacted the HMO, the lady said she would send a notice and I had to wait 30 days.

She sent 2 more, no change, called her back and she said she talked to the home owners and they denied there dogs barked.

So, I was out of luck, I live in a planned community and the police are private and answer to the HMO.......

They finally moved, a young couple moved in with 2 Labs.....man...they are freaking loud !!!!!

So...I am selling my house...looking for an acre for a little insulation from whatever...



I have not had any luck talking to neighbors with barking dogs except one, after I told him his dog woke us up at night he bought a bark collar that very day 😀

What is it with people wanting to take it out against the dogs? Milkbones in rat poison, stakes and Dcon? Wtf? You guys need help. What you should do is:

1) speak w/ the owners Hopefully they will be civil and try to alleviate the situation.
2) pay the dog some attention if it is friendly - the dog could be neglected and needs human attention, in more ways than one.
3) call the cops and/or animal control

Who knows, there could be a reason the dog is barking... perhaps a wild dog is running around harassing the neighborhood or a fox/possum is sneaking around.

My one roommate's dog barks all the freaking time, at all hours of the day. And when he does start his barking, she starts whacking the wall by the downstairs window really hard and screaming at him, which is of course extremely helpful---the dog gets even more excited and starts barking harder.

I'd say something, but her parents own the house I live in, and I'm usually the type to ignore things that are ignorable. But this dog is slowly driving me nuts.

He's a very smart dog, too; I try to hang out with him when she's not home, which is really often. I'm convinced that he barks because he's under-stimulated and becoming neurotic.

For God's sake, do not do anything to harm the dog. Its the asshole neighbors that are at fault, not the dog. Direct your anger at them, not the poor dog who is pleading to be let inside of the house.

I let my dog out every few hours, as soon as he barks, I call him back inside. Its natural for dogs to bark, sometimes for what seems like forever. They're just being dogs. The neighbors have the responsibility to bring it in or do what it takes to quiet it down.

I'd recommend animal control or cops.
