Hello there Everyone, I am not a Huge apple Fanboy, but I do enjoy using some of there products, because they do one hell of job. I wanted to ask this question before I pull the trigger on this. Currently I have the 3rd Gen Itouch and I had it for two + years and it starting to have some issues here and there. I was looking into get the 4th Gen, but I have also been reading about the 5th coming out soon, so here is the question:

Should I wait for the 5th Gen or Should I just go ahead and get the 4th Gen? Please share your thoughts. Thank You!

Josh

I'm in the same boat as you OP, I really want a 4g, but I have this thought in my head that the 5g will be almost exactly like the iPhone 4g, right down to the form factor. I'm going to try to hold out until September and see what happens.

Retina display is truly bad ass and that is what makes Ipod 4 so good. Now what will the 5 have that will make it stand out? Unless they have some unknown idea we don't know about I don 't see it being much better.

Dual core. Perhaps more RAM. Possibly better battery life. Maybe a different hardware design.

what kind of new magic do you really expect? it has retina. something magical like the ipad2 where its half as thin? apple is coming to a dangerous spot when a new cpu/ram is the only thing they can give us. adding apps and calling it a new IOS doesn't really count that much these days.

Not sure if ipod 5 will come out in Sept since they're delaying iphone 5. Maybe new ipod in Jan?

LIke I said, Apple has unveiled new iPods every Sept/Oct for the past... 9 or 10 years. Why not unveil the iPhone along with them?

well, for one they could (should) slap in the iphone 4's camera. had that not been neutered on the current touch, i would have grabbed one.

Apple kept releasing the iPod Touch a few months after the iPhone; I remember when the iPhone came out in June of 200X, I said, "Man, I want the iPhone, just the iPart, not the Phone part", and hence, the iPod Touch was released later on

Then, after every release of the iPhone (3G, 3GS, 4) in June, new versions of the iPod Touch would come out in Sept, following changes from each previous device (getting a speaker, faster CPU, then retina/camera/mic). A lot of people would take advantages of the iPod Touch w/o caving in to get a new iPhone.

This post saved until September, to figure out who the real 'winner' is 😀

hint: we all lose playing to Apple's game 🙁

so you want a camera with no image stabilization? and a flash to eat up the crappy battery (almost 50% less than iphone4) and then you want two speakers so its as loud as an iphone then the battery will get chewed even faster? and lighter? lol.

stabilization - no, don't care
flash - yes, even if it eats battery I don't use flash often
two speakers - no, don't care
lighter - no; i'd take slightly bigger battery over thinner / lighter.
