ITA Matrix Airfare and Travel Agent?

When booking, have you guys / gals ever gotten the rates given by Google's ITA Matrix Airfare search?

I have for the most part, but when I book flights individually (i.e., different airlines in and out - one way fare each), the actual rates that I get from the airline websites are significantly more. Google recommends using a travel agent, but I haven't used one for this, yet.

Has anyone gotten better or similar rates for Google's airfare search by using a travel agent?
 
Ive never used a travel agent for domestic flights but trying to book a flight is giving me a god damn headache. Too many options, too many search engines, all of them give you different numbers, the prices change every single hour, etc

Everytime I need to book a flight nowadays, I feel like I'm basically bending over and getting fucked up the ass
