an old scanner only work with win xp, i have vista on the new pc...
was gonna throw away the scanner

so i made a winxp vmware image and then via usb emulation it was now able
to detect and use this 'legacy hardware'

i wonder if my winxp 802.11g PCI card will work this fashion too?



 
No. VMWare can tunnel USB devices in to the VM, the same is not true for PCI cards.
