IT support ticketing/helpdesk software

Greetings. I'm a one man shop right now. Looking to better organize tasks and problems for my customers. Also, would like to acquire a bit more biz to support one or two more techs. Does anyone use a web based ticketing/help desk software package? It doesn't have to be free.

Thanks,
ss4f

If I were in your position, I'd check out Spiceworks. It's free and well-regarded from what I've read, although I've never used it for the ticketing feature.

Ok. Funny you mentioned that, and I thank you. I had had this conversation with a friend of mine via google talk a year ago or so, and I could not for the life of me remember which service he had suggested, and that was it! Thank you.

My office uses Microsoft Dynamics/CRM 2011 (soon to be 2013) and it's a turd. Microsoft doesn't seem to be able to code for its own software (Internet Explorer/Outlook).

I've been able to play with Spiceworks which is fantastic by comparison and the community is so lively and informative to the level of AT.

IME, Vtiger and Spiceworks are both excellent. Spiceworks is closed and semi-hosted, and geared more for inventory, purchasing, network health, and other IT service stuff, on top of having a fairly good help desk (plus, lots of free plugins to add things to it). Vtiger is FOSS, and is mainly a flexible CRM, but with a solid ticket handling UI. If CRM is a minor part of your needs, Spiceworks is quite awesome.

we use Service Now and it seems pretty good. I don't know how much it costs but if you have a big enough operation it could be worth it.

Spiceworks looks to be what I am also looking for in a ticket system.

On top of that, being free is a huge bonus. LOL
