I don't think it warrants a firing up front... at least warn him about it... if you don't want to confront him, just send a mass mail around indicating excessive use of bandwidth such as file sharing, etc. is prohibited... blah blah such action will result in ____.

Not prosecuted does not mean legal. Companies might turn a blind eye to some fansub distribution but it's still copyright infringement, hence not a good activity to allow using company equipment.

You've probably seen nothing but Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon. The stuff they show on Cartoon Network isn't real anime (well, except for Cowboy Bebop, but they edit it anyway). Try watching some Planetes or Azumanga Daioh. Also, pull the stick out of your butt.

Subscribe to Tech TV.. every time I turn that channel on it's anime! Which causes me to surf right past, but some of you might be into it.

Don't fire him until he starts installing distributed computing clients on all the machines.

Exactly. Tell him he has two choices: Stop downloading and continue working for your company. Or, get fired.

give him a warning or tell him to install netlimiter or some bw limiting software.
and as long as the anime is unlicensed, there's pretty much no chance some company in japan is going to go after you.

oh yeah, and give us the name of his anime files. want to see what he's downloading. heh.
