It sucks sitting around waiting to hear back from an interview.

I just got a job with Daimler Chrysler and it was due to my persistance.

After my interviews I sent out thank yous to everyone. Then last week I sent out a letter to my recruiter telling him that Daimler was my top choice and that I was hoping to hear good news from them. On Friday Dec 3rd I got a rejection letter from them. I wrote the head of HR a nice Email explaining that I was disappointed and that I still thought I would be good for the job. I followed that Email up on Monday with a call that said the same thing and I expressed my strong desire to work for them.

They contacted me on Wednesday to let me know they changed their minds and were going to make me an offer. I got a call on Friday that the offer was in the mail. I had to pound down the door to get in the place, but it can be done! Make sure they know how much you really want the position.

Well, if it doesn't come through I'll reply to the "thanks, but no thanks" letter with something along those lines.

Practice what you are going to say before you call:

1) Hi Mr. xxxx. I'm xxxxx and I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx. Thanks for the interview on xxxx. I enjoyed hearing your requirements and the culture of you company. I'm very interrested in the position we talked about. If there is anything I can do to help please conact me at xxx-xxx-xxxx. Talk to you soon.

The only contact information I have is for regional out of state recruiters. I pm'd someone from here that works there to see if he can get me contact information. I didn't get business cards from my interviewers as I was told the recruiters would handle all questions.

heh, well you learned another lesson.

"Good to meet you, do you have a card?"

sorry if I'm going overboard on this, but think I can help you.

the amount of information that passes by my desk, let alone my e-mail box is astounding. But persistence and personal attention does pay off and gets you noticed.

It's fine, I appreciate it. I know to ask for a card, but I didn't want to be rude when I was told to send questions to the recruiters. Is it acceptable to ask for a card anyway?

My rolodex has 100s of cards. It is NEVER inappropriate to ask for a card.

Its tough working with a recruiter because they tell you they'll take care of everything. In reality you are nothing more than a product they are trying to sell.

So make yourself a more attractive product. Plus you never know. Its all about who you know and building your prossional contact list is a good thing.

how long have you been waiting. for my current job, i got interviewed on a monday and had to wait till that friday to hear about the job offer. i just continued what i would normally do and didn't stress out about it.

I interviewed last Thursday.

did you send your thank yous?

Have you called?

Have you followed up?

If not then the job went to the candidate who did.

They said that they were making a decision right then. So I thought thankyou letters would be inappropriate. Did I screw up then?

i just checked my old emails from the Sent folder, and i sent a Thank You email on the thursday. maybe that's what they were waiting for before they called with an offer the next day

How is this?

Dear xxxx,

I would like to thank you for meeting with me this past Thursday. I learned a lot about what xxxx has to offer, and really enjoyed the experience. The projects that you went over and your enthusiasm impressed me.

I am quite interested in a position with xxxx, and I look forward to hearing from you. I would appreciate hearing from you, and of course I would be pleased to meet with you again, if necessary, on fairly short notice. You may contact me by phone at 585-259-xxxx or by email at xxxx@rochester.rr.com.

Sincerely,
Justin xxxx

Not to shabby at all.

Just remember, we see a crap load of e-mail everyday and a phone call is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT/SHOWS STRONGER INTEREST.

A 3 minute phone call is worth dozens of e-mails.

I don't have phone numbers or emails. I have the address for the company's location in Syracuse. I figure with the right name it will get to their desks.

I can try calling an hr person tomorrow to see if they will give me emails or phone numbers.

there you go, motivate and go get it.

If you are turned down at least you did your best and everything you could. But until you are specifically turned down keep making the effort.
