When I was in high school it was a rule, if you were late without an excuse, you couldn't participate in extracarricular activites. If you were marked absent for the day, you weren't allowed to participate at all. But, at our school it was loosely enforced. I was late half the time to school (about 5 min) and still got to play basketball and football.

If being sick once in a while somehow negates the enjoyment and fulfillment of being a parent, then yes, you suck bigtime.
