Could you be more specific? What applications seem to be dragging more than they should?

If you are playing games, those specs are missing one very important item:

What video card do you have?

Well some of the problems i have are when i close a program that uses alot of graphical power it takes forever to close. When i use my 3d modeling program some of the rendering take longer than on my older 733 mhz computer. My graphics card is a GeForce 6600 GT AGP 128mb.

Come too think of it when i put my pc together i was supposed to set the bios setting but since i am fairly new to building a PC i was to scared to mess with the bios. Could this be an issue. I also noticed i bought OCZ 1GB DDR400 PC3200 Dual Channel which is supposed to clock at 400mhz but on the pc specs its only clocking at 200 mhz.

I have two old hard drives that i had on my old pc. Does a slow hard drive cause that?

Its really at 400. DDR = double data rate. So effective clock is twice the real clock. Basically, its just another overly-complicated memory term. As for better speed, you could cut your AGP aperature, and clean up your hard drive.

Reformat use the tweaking guide get it running on a fresh start. Most people format atleast every 6 months, make an early format if things arent going the way you want them too.

Wow.

Guys, I can't imagine reformatting every 6 months. How about running MS Antispyware and (after that's all done & you've rebooted and run it again to confirm it's all clean) MSCONFIG and letting us know what's running in the background?

What, particularly, is slow? You mention a 3D program - so what does Task Manager show is running (and using CPU time) when you run that application?

Getting rid of spyware ---> http://www.fatwallet.com/t/28/299439/ . I have 2 hard drives one for my OS and one for my media (Mp3's, Video, Important documents like resumes, and pictures) that way when I i think things aren?t just running exactly like they should be, or something was installed that made things screwy, like a virus or a program that just didn?t run right, i can just clean it off and start over. You can get a 200 gig HD for as low as 59 dollars.

Run HijackThis and post your log here... then I/we can help you figure out if you have anything fishy going on as far as malware.
