It seems that the US was under a major cyber attack.

I'd say having China buying up our government's debt is more of an incentive then any plea made by Wal-mart.

Wanna see over half of the American public pissed the fuck off, shut down Walmart for a week or two. The only thing that I can think of that might compare would be taking American Idol off the air.

Wow the source was China. That happens to every major company and site everyday. About a million port scans and DOS attacks originating from Chinese proxies. You would think since they have to run through a million proxies just to change their status on facebook they will at least use their time evading the Great Firewall in doing something constructive

It's beyond me why we're not treating the government of China as an enemy right now.
Agreed. I suspect that two factors, our debt and the enormous investment (and potential profit) of the very large corporations who contribute millions to our political system, are to blame.

Systems/Networks with Sensitive Data should be Hard Wired, but with no Internet Connections. E-mail and other outside Transmitted Data should be on a separate Network.

This what I don't understand. My cousin works as a consultant for the government, and he's not allowed to have a burner, or Internet, or USB drives, or even a freakin' radio. Yet it seems like every few months there's word of either a drive or laptop filled with classified info going missing, or of a (at least partially) successful hacking. At some point between consultants and the top our security goes to shit.

There are often two completely different systems. One is insulated, but the other is set up to allow communication. You can't avoid it. The most secure data is protected but there must be ways for researchers to communicate and collaborate. That's what's gone after. Btw it's fairly certain that this is a government attack.

Yes, he has email, but it goes through a central location where everything is monitored and screened.

Red China is in an enviable situation, strong enough and necessary enough that it can pretty much do as it wishes without consequences.
