It seems that I've underestimated Bleach..

I read that as "It seems that I've underestimated the power of Bleach." Haha I was going to say, that's some powerful germ-killing stuff.

My advice: Once you get to the showdown over Rukia at the end of the arc, stop watching the anime and start reading the manga. Although the manga loses something as well.

The whole show degenerated into DBZ, which is sad because it had such a tremendous start and kept itself fresh for so long.

I stopped watching after the Soul Society arc, it became obvious where the show was going. In fact it became obvious towards the end of the SS arc as well. The DBZ comparison is apt.

Edit: By the way.... BERSERK!!!!!

Yeah, I thought the Bleach episodes were turning into drawn out stand-offs where the characters repeatedly "power up" to unprecedented power levels.

Yep, I at first thought it was lame. But it was awesome in the Soul Society arc. It's very much DBZ right now, they even go into constipation mode when they powerup and also are motivated to get sudden bursts of energy.
