hey, isekii, what's the difference between Supra's 2JZ and IS's 2JZ? I know IS300 has VVTI and Supra's doesn't.
The engine in the Turbo is the 2JZ-GTE while the engine in the NA Supra and IS300 is the 2JZ-GE. The '98 NA Supra had VVTI, so that engine is pretty much the same as the IS300's engine. The main difference between the GTE and GE is the lack of turbos in the GE. The GTE had a twin turbo setup that made 350 crank horsepower. Unfortunately one can't bolt the Supra turbos to the GE because the bolts don't line up. So, a custom turbo kit would be needed to make power. The GE's block also has some subtle differences, but the general consensus is that it can hold the same amount of horsepower as the GTE. But, apparently the GE in the current IS300's has weaker rods than the Supra's GE - not totally sure about this one.

assuming there is no clearance problem, can one drop a 2JZ GTE into a is300???

I know of at least 3 IS's in SoCal with a GTE and another with a 1JZ...it's not hard at all.

It's only pushing out 215hp but it's much more peppier than one thinks.

IS's are probably too expensive to mod for most people.

Best one I've ever heard of was a Florida IS300 Sportcross (station wagon) with a 2JZ-GTE in it doing something like 450 WHP. 12 second grocery getters rule. 😀

Wrong. The 2JZ-GTE will NOT just drop right into the IS300. This isn't an SC300 we're talking about here.

There are a couple reasons....one is the cost, however many of the 'real' modders have more cash than they know what to do with. Some of them have tons of cars, at a general car meet this guy had a really nice AE86 (at the time I had no idea really what it was but a old car that was near mint)...Joe 17 year old was making fun of the 'beater', him having a WRX modded.

It got stupid, so the AE86 guy left and came back with an exotic...something older and different but definitely big $$$ 🙂.

The IS is a good car but just isn't one of those cars people really want (Supra, MR2, etc) for performance. It makes a good grocery getter, but the guys with money are buying something + and SUV and the guys without money are buying the sub $10k and even $5k cars and modding them, those are who drive these mods into production.

To me the IS is the perfect car for the guy that loved to fvck around on the weekends with his car, got married and then got the proverbial 2.5 kids and a dog....makes a hell of a lot more sence to me than an SUV. BMW and MB have nice wagons too, as well as Subaru and a couple others (the Magnum).

Toyota/Lexus cater to old men and wannabes, so naturally they don't care about their cars enough to make a site about it

EDIT: I mean whenever one of you n00bs builds the site!

OK instead of me thread crapping, anybody who wants my uber code for the nissan site can have it. It's a mysql database with a few tables and then a php page which hits it. I'm currently manually entering info in each table since I never got around to building an input screen of any kind. I figure that if you don't drive a Nissan you probably need the help 🙂
