IT! revealed

<< Inventor Dean Kamen's mystery invention, dubbed ``IT'' or ``Ginger,'' is a two-wheeled, hydrogen-powered scooter that is emission-free and for which he is building a New Hampshire factory >>

That sounds like transportation to me......?😕

"hydrogen powered"
can anybody here explain the ramifications of that?
Do they mean its like an ICE but burns hydrogen/oxygen instead of gasoline/oxygen?
Could it just suck it out of the sky? (I doubt it, i bet we're talking pressure tanks)

Wow so the Gingers out of the bottle.

My friend guessed what it was in december.

Hydrogen Fuel is idea whose time has come if this works it will change the market. The stock market is always a risk but ill wager my money.

Does anyone know when IT will be for sale? it doesn't sound like vaporware but it also doesn't sound like IT is coming within the next few months. any word?

(contains an 'f' word). I hate scooters. I'd hoped IT would be something more interesting than a bloody scooter :|

You should know better snow

what i really want to know is how the petroleum industries/producing countries are going to react to this. can we say bankruptcies and starvation here? how 'bout 5 cents/gal. gas? our domestic oil producers will be profoundly affected, not to mention the local economies that are oil driven. what mildly surprises me is how these oil producers are being so quiet about it. i'd have thought they would've tried to buy out this new technology and bury it deep, never to be seen from again, like how the oil, auto and rubber industries allegedly buried clean electrical mass transportation.

<< our domestic oil producers will be profoundly affected, >>

By what? This isn't a hydrogen powered car here. You can already buy a motorbike that will get 60 mpg, yet we don't have the oil companies trembling yet. I'm guessing a scooter that you don't even get to sit down on will be even less popular. Should be a goood selling novelty item for a season though.

These things are supposedly going to cost around $2K. I really see this being a much bigger product for the Asian and European markets where fuel is much more expensive. The hydrogen fuel cell should get the equivalant of around 100 mpg. When the heat transfer pump version of the engine comes out later on it should do even better than that.

I don't see Americans giving up their cars... hopefully though we'll have hydrogen cell powered cars sometime in the next 5 years

my guess is that its hydrogen power cell (ie what they use in space)
and its about time that it got put to use.

*kat. <-- tired and avoiding homework

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are nothing new - by the time this come out, we should see some cars/vans powered by Ballard fuel cells on the market. They've had Ballard fuel cell powered busses (public transportation) running here in Vancouver, and in Boston (I think) for a few years. As far as I know, Mercedes and a few other car companies have gone through several prototypes of fuel cell powered vehicles in the last few years, so I wouldn't be surprised to see one hit the market sometime soon (at least around the time this scooter comes about).

I really see all of my rich private school friends pulling into our school parking lot and tying up their skooters - yeah, right.

Nobody has mentioned what type of speed your going to be able to get on this thing...if its a scooter, with just a hydrogen base, your gonna have a hard time (b/c of the wind) of controlling it at more than 20-30 mph...hmmm, 20 mph, or 75.....lemme think about this one 🙂

On the note of new "cleaner" vehicles...Dodge is coming out with a hybrid electric Durango in the next year or two. I'll tell you that all the major automotive manufacturers are in a big push to get hybrid vehicles out in the next 3-5 years. Fuel cells are also a possible option (From what I have heard, Ford is working on one)

The big kick is to get Buses and heavy trucks converted. Did you know some city buses don't even get 3MPG!! True a hybrid can only boost this ~60% with current technology, but it is still quite a boost.

That d00d Dean Kamen is a pretty cool guy. Back when I lived in New Hampshire, I took part in his "US First" competition (now called "First&quot😉, where high school students build robots with the help of Lockheed Sanders/Martin Marietta and have them compete at Disneyworld. I had lotsa fun cuz it was a free trip to Disneyworld for 3 years in high school. Building the robots was fun too. This guy's a real inventor.

BMW had a working model of a hydrogen ran 7 series a few years back. Whatever happened with it?

Snow patrol I feel your pain. Blasted kids were pains in the butt before on those things. Now you will have to worry about them blowing up your block.🙂
