It really sucks to be out of shape....

The guys and I practiced our softball skills for a few hours on Saturday getting ready for our league to start.

Today I can't move without feeling it somewhere... 🙁

We're heading to the batting cages tonight for some more work....

Ack, delayed onset... good thing it goes away after your body starts getting used to it.

if DOMS goes away, then you're not working out hard enough.

It's not only being out of shape sometimes... it's which muscles you use for certain things. I'm a "seasoned veteran" for hockey, but when I was asked to play volleyball with friends, I was pretty sore for a few days after. It's just that muscles were either being used a different way or weren't used for certain motions at all.

It's retribution from your body.

retribution from softball?

YOU PUSSY!
Seriously. If softball is kicking your ass, you need to put AT down for a while and go for a jog. 😉

Yes, seriously....and all we were doing is hitting and fielding. No base running or anything. 🙁

Oh, I hurt yesterday as well, but it was Sunday so I didn' t have to move. 😉

Because most muscles take 48 hours to rebuild. When you work out, you break down the muscle tissue (hence the pain). The muscle will rebuild itself (usually within 48 hours) a little bigger than it was before. In extreme cases (where you haven't worked out for sometime or after a very hard workout) it could take longer.

This is why you should never work out a muscle group every day (with one exception). If you did, the muscle would keep getting smaller and smaller because it would never have a chance to rebuild itself after being broken down.

The exception is abs. People like to have smaller abs and therefore tend to work out on them every day.
