We been using outlook since early 2000, maybe even before that.. during xp days. The guy has been working here for over 16 years and using outlook for at least 16 years.

Yes its call outlook out of office message. ITS 2016 !@#!@#@!##!@@#@!#!@#@!#!@#!@#!@#!@#!@

Ironically, our IT department is too stupid/lazy to train people on such things in the OP then bitch to high heaven when they have to do it for people. Our IT is THE_WORST.

Meh, I don't mind those. Quick easy problems are fine with me. It's the users with intermittent slowness with some random program that works fine for everyone else, or a wireless issue that never goes away no matter what you throw at it. Those make me want to break something.

I don't even see that as "IT". That should fall under basic office skills.

No argument from me. But if the IT department doesn't explain it to these people, how are they to know how to set up away messages/forwards etc from within Outlook? I just hate our IT department. They really aren't "IT" by any stretch of the imagination.

Train your lazy ass to do a Google search or fucking ask around and maybe find a teammate or manager that could easily click click click and set it up and be done instead of wasting IT resource on some BS. You're not the only one that needs help

I love it when I write up how to documents that are step by step, but I get calls from people that want me to do it for them...without trying to do it themselves first.

I learned a long time ago, if there weren't problems the company would not need me.

Edit: Should have read the thread, ICF beat me to it.

I just had a mini stroke reading that. I loathe those calls. Most of the docs have pictures. Are you that dumb you can't follow simple pictures????

Basically, networking blows. I don't even know why they named it that. It should be netsometimesworking.

You don't. You pick up the printer and rotate it 90 degrees. And no you are not supposed to use the wheels.

why can't you look it up yourself? Why can't someone else train it?

Uhhh I know how and do it regularly.
I'd guess IT should do it, as it's their job. (We're small company)

20 years ago I would have agreed with you. Maybe even 15 years ago. Now? Nope. Google that shit. What do you do if you have to use Excel and don't know how to format the formula?

You don't know the people I'm dealing with though. I agree 100%
Hell I've made my LIVING out of "learning through Google". But they have no concept of being able to do such things through a google search.

And you're missing the point. My IT bitches when they set up the forwards/away messages for people. Yet they could send out a simple email or post to our intranet/blog with simple direction on how to do it.

Where I work at, I am over several voice switches in 22 states and have to do on call rotation 1 week a month. Some of the calls I get after hours boggles my mind, but every time I get a call it's an instant 100 dollars added to my check, so I don't mind when someone calls me to do a number forwarding or something. I always remind them that there are people at work who interface with the customers that are supposed to do it, but I'm not going to balk at free money.
