I have met some people here personally, even had one into my home. I know what a few others drive because they post here regularly. I'd like to think I'm not as polarizing a figure as alky but who knows...

I guess my problem is that I count this as a tech forum when it is clearly not. I make it a point to mask my opinion when facts are being discussed. My opinion is that people who fail to debate well, miss the "beauty of gray", and parrot the same thing over and over again are pretty much killing the legitimacy of this being an automotive forum.

Where I stand on anything is entirely irrelevant when it should be a case by case basis on facts. I think you have gotten a lot better with not crapping threads in which your opinion was the polar opposite, and you don't have a negative sig anymore.

You are definitely not as polarizing as alky, and most of the times you "annoy" me I let it go, but this was a loaded thread to begin with. This is kind of sidetrack, but I remember when you ripped on someone a long time ago for wasting time on digging a hole or something like that. The counter-argument was making a ridiculous amount of posts on a message board and I guess that stuck with me. It is the squeaky wheel type thing, SNR and all that.

In person, you are probably a pretty cool dude, but on the forum you come across as the guy yelling what he likes and how everything else is dumb, IMO. I did use my opinion there as denoted by the fake acronym IMO.

But I guess if you want a luxorified Civic with an engine that will probably go 400k miles before needing new rings and a transmission that will likely go over 300k miles and no major maintenance repairs until after 200k miles (radiator / torn CV boots etc.) ... why not?

I think its better looking than the current tsx. I had a first gen tsx and it reminds me a lot of that. Main problem with it is its just too expensive for what it is.


When the cla comes out and even the current 320i are close in price to the premium level isx and are so much more car. If Honda put a 2.4 L earth dreams and offered it with an auto it would sell much better. Or if it just cost less. I mean if the base 2.0 had earth dreams and it cost less say $26k with the trimming s it would be way more compelling

Yep, they should have dropped the 150hp i4 completely. Inexcusable for a car that typically stickers much closer to $30k than 20 off the floor. And then the 200hp version is still weak on torque, and available only with a manual. I love manuals and only buy them, but most people buy autos. Acura continues to confuse.

My car i average a flat 18.0 and I'll pay $2,466 a gallon. So over the course of the year I'd save a whopping $500 bucks. When you are spending thousands upon thousands of dollars for a car, it's just not that big of a deal. there are so many other areas people waste money from cell phones to cable (i pay a lot for those too) that I just can't bring myself to even care a little bit.

I assume the new ILX (200 HP version) has the K24, which in that application is by no means weak on torque. I test drove a 2012 Civic SI and it felt like one of the most torquey four bangers I have ever driven minus some turbo 4's. It feels nothing like the 8th gen SI with the K20 high revver. Just saying.

I don't think it's hate as much as the stupidity of a "luxury" version of an econobox. If GM tried to rebadge the Cruze as a Cadillac, it would be relentlessly mocked and rightfully so.

I feel like American cars have greatly improved in the past decade. Some of them are just as good, if not better, than foreign products now. However, pre-2005 or so, American cars were truly awful.

However, I'm now the very happy owner of a Focus 2012, which has served me perfectly thus far ^_^. It's proudly made in Michigan, too.

None of the "American" cars my family owns are actually built here, they are built in Canada and Mexico. "Buy American", get a Honda or Toyota.

Last Oct. I had to shop for a quick replacement for a rearended total...
I got an 05 Camry because it rides as tight and smooth as can be...very likely as it did 100k miles ago when it first came off the showroom floor....it gets 24+mpg with 100% around- town miles....a US car might do as well after 100k miles, but the Cam does, and that answers the question about getting an import.

Also, Acura isn't being that dense as far as powertrain choices. Not completely anyway. Remember the Integra GS-R wasn't available with an automatic. Granted, the base model wasn't limited to automatic only but there's some method to the madness. And of course the ILX is loaded with features that simply aren't available in a Civic Si. Now, is it worth $5k more? That's for the buyer to decide. However at the $30k price point I would have trouble choosing the ILX.

In my case, my CR-Z nets me about 40mpg on average. The car it replaced averaged low 20's. And the CR-Z didn't cost me any more than the other cars I was looking at. Fuel economy wasn't my main consideration but I'm not complaining. Now, if the hybrid is significantly more expensive then of course its probably pointless to spend the money up front unless you drive A LOT.

The numbers I quoted are real world numbers. I've been tracking every fillup on fuelly since I bought the car and I have over 4,000 miles on it already. Average to date is 38.3mpg but my last fillup I averaged over 40mpg.

I figure I put about 20,000 miles a year on a car and it has a 100,000 mile warranty on the hybrid battery.
