It makes me want to cry

I just ordered 12 new budget systems for work. All celeron 1.0A on Asus TUSL2. None of them are going to be run overclocked. It's for a school. Ooh look how fast typing tutor just opened!

I don't upgrade my computer often, so at home I'm still running my 566@850. Kicked ass when I first got it, now the cheapest boxes around humiliate it.

Tell them "I need to configure the BIOS to make sure the systems run at their optimal performance". Don't tell em you gonna oc. That way you could oc them to say 134fsb or whatever hehe... 😛

Yeah, the problem is I'm "them" in this situation.

I had the decision of what to buy, I set them up, I'm the only one who ever maintains them. It's a small nonprofit org, and less than half of my job is system stuff. The other part I teach.

No one would ever know but me. That's the problem. Also, I have this sticky moral thing about running work computers out of spec. I'm sure I'll try them all out, just cause I'm curious to see what they'll do, and there's nothing to hurt if the voltage stays reasonable.

But no one would even be able to see the performance difference the way they'll be used. That's the part that makes me want to cry most. I'm the only one who would even notice if I brought my home computer in and switched it.

All that's ever used on these things is Office 97, IE, and educational software.

I got my home system when I got this job. This is the first time it has been slower than a computer at work.

Don't feel bad. One of the computer at my school is PIII 1GHz and PIII 667MHz, most are Pentium 200. My regular computer is broken and this computer I'm using is slower than school's. It's 600Mhz P3

Your one of the good ones regit 🙂 not many honest folks out there who wouldn't take advantage if they were in your position! BTW, why can't you sell your rig and apply the cash plus a few hundred(if you can scrape it up) and upgrade to a much faster rig?

Right now we're saving up for a big trip - at least a few months. I'm thinking to sell my system before I go and when I get back (spring 2003) I'll be able to pick something better.

I came very close to upgrading, but the old celeron still works well for 90% of what I use it for. Some games don't run as well as I'd like, and I use some audio apps that would benefit, but not enough to make it worth the 2-300$.

I had to admit to myself that the main reason I wanted a faster computer is to have a faster computer. Not a really good argument to take to your girlfriend when you're both socking it away for travel.
