It looks like the PhF was not ready for OGR

The RC5 output for the recipients of the PhF went way down yesterday. Where I had been getting about 22,000 extra a day, I dropped to 2962 extra for Friday.

The results look similar for Ray, ViRGE and others.

I did not get any OGR blocks credited under my email (I'm doing OGR for Thunderstorm) so I presume that PhF used a 458 or earlier client.

I guess so. I got a grand total of 0 blocks from the Sysopt PhF (which is more than likely the same guy as yours) today.

This could be another chance for dnet to find out just what it is, as they could look at the pile of invalid OGR blocks comng in from people who aren't doing OGR.

Lets keep it this way... the PhantomFlusher was a disaster for the daily #1 competition DPC <-> AT

Maybe it will be a fair battle now!

Yep, I'm down to mortal numbers. I have my main machine doing 50% RC5 and 50% OGR right now (it fetchs both sets of blocks and then crunchs all of them before connecting).

It would have been nice if dnet had programed their main keyservers to only send RC5 blocks if the OGR blocks were invalid (a sign of an old client).

This also isn't proof that the PhF is a trojan (at least not yet). The change came up all of a sudden so he/she may not have had time to change the .ini files yet.

Michael,
If you want to work on only one project at a time, you could check out:

<<
Additional buffer-level checking:

The following options are extensions to normal threshold management and are not usually necessary:

4) update on per-project buffer exhaustion.

Option 4 is a hint to the client to work on a single project as long as possible (updating per-project buffers individually), rather than loop through all active/enabled projects (one combined update per pass).

TA Cube lost 25,000 RC5 blocks yesterday and, since the labs don't have the correct client installed, they went in to thin air. To be honest, Two is so pissed at this, he may just say screw it, which means that this sudden implementation of OGR without notice will cost TA 750,000 blocks a month.

Frankly, I'm not sure I have much enthusiasm left myself.

Russ-I know how you feel; I lost atleast 1500 blks. which is a lot for the small time operation I have.:(

I have thought of uninstalling the client and saying to h*ll with Dnet! BUT there is the team to consider; and the reason I originally started cracking: to make TA number 1 in RC5-64.:)

I hope that you and Dan continue.

Yeah it definitely looks like the PhF switched to OGR. I checked Boberfett's stats and he plummeted back to normal levels.

It will be very interesting to see how the PhF responds to this. If it is a trojan, it will be very difficult to fix. If it is has been installed by hacking, then it could be fixed by re-hacking. If the PhF is legit, it should be relatively easy to fix.

I hope no legit members of TA get too upset by this. TA has been doing so well lately, I would like to see it continue.

Actually, even if the PhF is illegit, it'll probably come back up to speed. Dnet's new pproxy software has most likely allready been installed on their keyservers, which means next time the PhF's cows connect, they'll go back to RC5. So, it looks like this lull will be short lived.:(

PS Rus, stick with it. This has made you happy, have fun, ect. Do you really want to give that up?

ViRGE,

The fun is in winning; in kicking the crap out of the other teams. Dnet's approach to this situation has reduced the ability to do that.

I will keep cracking for the team, but the fact is, Dan may not.

Everyone seems to be missing the fact that we can still kicking the crap out of the other teams. Only now we'll be doing it in two contests instead of one.

What a crock of crap.

This individual has propelled us to the top. Regardless whether it was under his email or others, they HELPED Team Anandtech reach lofty heights.

What you said is like calling the borg cheating. In the end, may the best team WIN, which we are.
