Depending on the college most financial aid officers are actually willing to work with you if you've done well in school and show an avid interest in finishing up with them. My personal experience with the financial aid office bit dog gonads, but that's simply because the school I attended didn't really need to offer financial aid...they had plenty of applicants willing to pay full admission costs, and so there wasn't any reason to extend much in the way of aid packages.

But like I said, the majority of schools are willing to work with their students...especially in the form of loans, many of which are subsidized. Also, try going to fastweb (www.fastweb.com I believe) and filling in some personal information. It's essentially a site that finds scholarships for which you are eligible, and it can come in very handy.

Good luck and I'm sure everything'll work out fine.

Subtly mention that Bill Gates dropped out of college and is now very damn rich. Then mention that hiring someone to do an assassination is relatively cheap nowadays.

I think he'll get the point. ;)

Seriously, though, sorry to hear about the trouble. Seeing as how I'm still a year and a half away from going to college, I don't have any helpful advice yet.

Hit the scholarship sites, apply for everyone you can. The finiacial aid office may also be able to help with that.

Get a job.

Sell the computer.

<< Sell the computer >>

Let a man sell his computer, and he'll live for a semester. Let a man keep it and get the Anandtech forums, and he'll get advice for the rest of his life.

I lost $1000 of pell grant money this semester (my mom decided to go make an extra 10k this year or something silly like that). I was upset.

Hope you can figure everything out, Mday!!

I hate FA offices. They screwed me out of $15K in my last year. I was so fed up with them that I ended up taking a loan out so that I could finish school. I will never donate a dollar back to that school. I am waiting for the alumni people to call me and ask me for a donation. They'll get a laugh from me.

Mday - Good luck in getting them to explain why you lost money. It took me 6 months to find out why and by that time they said I was no longer eligable to receive it. :| Seriously, you need to keep bugging them and write letters to people higher up in the school if no one in the FA office is giving a clear explanation. I wrote a couple of letters to the VP of the school and he got on the phone and actaully got some of the money back for me. He did more in one day than I could get done in 6 months.

That's a bummer, but welcome to the real world where most of us have to pay our own way. Way back when I was in college, my dad barely made enough to support the family yet I couldn't even qualify for a student loan, let alone anything else. I did receive some academic award money, but I still needed major loans. And that was for my first degree. The next time around I got smart and went with a co-operative program, which IMHO is the best way to get a paid education + valuable work experience that translates in to a higher starting salary. Nonetheless, I still ended up 6 figures in debt from my first degree after I was all done with my college educations.

your class schedule or you nef schedule.

figure out what's more important in you life. You may be a loser (your own words) but the nations' unemployement rate is at a 30 year low, or something like that.

You know how to use a computer which ought to get you a better gig then McDonalds.

Hey, here's another idea. Change your CLASS schedule to accomidate your job. According to a previous poll, the majority of students here also work. Your excuse doesn't hold water.
