I am a little confused. They did the roll-out ceremony. It looked done then, and judging from the pics above, it still looks pretty much done.

So, why can't it fly?

What isn't shown in the pictures is the giant treadmill.

No, it needs the giant treadmill in order to fly. Once that treadmill is built, the plane takes off.

By the time they have it finished, all the airline companies will have filed for chapter 11.

They are using completely new materials and construction techniques. It's very ambitious, but will require extensive testing - this is probably the largest carbon fiber plane ever built, so they'll have to test the hell out of it (#'s 2 and 3 aren't even slated to ever fly, just to be tested to death) to make sure they didn't miss anything.

"And because the composite skin doesn't corrode the way aluminum does, airlines can increase the cabin humidity to more comfortable levels."

never knew this, but i can feel the dry air in those long haul flights. My body hates that dry air so much

The base body is there - all the components that are not visibile may not have been delivered/tested.

Any word on A380? Haven't heard anything for a while now. Singapore Airline had their maiden commercial flight on Mar 18, 2008.

so, you answered your own question about whether it was flying commercially.

lastest news is the price going up because it's priced in dollars.

That is kindda weird for them to peg that thing to US dollars. I meant other than the Singapore one.

because the treadmill supplier was short on material. every airport will require 10 treadmills in place of runways to launch these things

It's mostly due to regulations. It could have flown years ago if they thought an early test flight was a priority.

yup main reason to choose this plane for a trip. won't feel so messed up afterwards. the windows are bigger and nicer as well, no deep plastic holes like other planes.

It LOOKED like it could fly, but you didn't see the inside.
