You could also put together a 5930k system with less RAM (2x8GB) and a 980ti ($600) for about $1600.

Or go all out on a 4790k system, adding 4x8GB a 980ti and the 1kw PSU. About $300 less than a similarly outfitted 5930k system ($1400 vs $1700).

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($230 @ MC Store)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($32.50 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($114.89 @ MC Store)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($149.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($147.88 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card ($599.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Rosewill HIVE 1000W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($68.00 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit) ($89.88 @ OutletPC)

Total: $1434.12

You could go with 2 cheaper cards, like a pair of 390s for about the same as the 980ti.

Yeah, I don't mind spending the $ for a top notch cooler and seeing what I can get out of it. Don't think I want to go the water cooled route though.

If you are willing to overclock, then 100% recommend you go with X99/5930K. Your last system lasted 7 years, and an overclocked 6 core will help you get a similar amount of life out of this one, IMO.

Is the new total $1500 with the monitor? Or is there still $2000 total?
Or is there some other new number/combination going on?

Whats with this time limit, do you need to have the entire build now, including monitor etc. Or is it still possible to hold off on a high end GPU and new monitor for later?

Perhaps it's now :

I have $2000 but must spend $1500 ASAP. I can save the other $500 for a new monitor or whatever later?

Looking to keep using my U2410 for about another year, then upgrade monitor and GPU. Will determine that budget when I get to that part. Probably see what black friday brings next year for that step. The $1500 to spend now not set in stone, just don't think I want to go the full $2k now knowing I will upgrade video in a year.

Well, as of today the 5930k went back to $500 at my microcenter and the 6700k is sold out. Hopefully will see it come back down in January if they get their stock back up.
