Look for sales because they are often over price and can be had at 50% off. And get one with good springs at about $1000~1500 at 1/2 price. You can get more memory foam padding if you think that it require it. I got mine for $800 at 60% off and it work great.

where can I find these sales? I have a costco membership but they sell mostly queen and king sizes plus I need delivery.

I got mine at The Bay (Canadian store), and I have seen them on sales at 1/2 off various stores such as Sears/etc...

My mom would get nice $2000 mattresses for free back when she worked at a furniture store (they were a reward). I think she got 4 of them. Her house is only two bedrooms so she had to give two away. When I stay there, the mattresses make it really easy to sleep. I'm not really sure what mattresses they were. I would assume Serta since she got one of those Serta sheep stuffed animals as a gift for selling so many.

You also might want to throw one of those foam matresses on there too. Those things are really bloody soft. Although if you don't like it soft, you might not like them.

sterns & Foster.

never slept better.

apparently they are no longer called box springs, they're called foundations... back to the OP what size are you looking at getting?

I've slept on a $100 mattress+boxspring all my life and I've never had any complaints. In fact I rather enjoy turning over. Keeps things fresh. I'm also the guy who flips over his pillow to get the cooler side.

I paid about $500 for a set of Serta queen size, the whole thing <matress/box/frame/etc>, from Sams Club around 5 months ago.

So far, so good. I can't believe some of you paid thousands of dollars for matresses. Too rich for me.

$350 for my pillowtop queen. Not a fan of memory foam; I don't enjoy the feeling of sinking into a mattress, and memory foam provides poor feedback for...*ahem*...bedroom activities.

Full size. Also known as double

I just got a 1700$ set for Christmas for an engagement present. Never have I wished so much that I could sleep for a decade.

Also, we used to sleep on a single......queen ftw.

Our last mattress was an extra firm Serta for $300 in 1991 ($435 in 2005 dollars). It lasted until this year when it just wasn't firm enough anymore. We put it on FreeCycle and someone else who doesn't mind a soft mattress will probably be using it for another ten years as it was a very well built mattress.

The new one is an all cotton futon for $270. Platform bed, no box spring. Box springs are counter productive if you want a really firm sleeping surface. The all cotton futon mattresses compress and quickly become extremely firm. I like it but it definitely isn't for everyone.

Sleep in Luxury

Here's one very helpful tip to know when shopping for mattresses. . .
Different retailers sell the same exact mattress under different model names. Say you are looking at a Sterns & Foster aaa in one store. . .another store might have the same exact Sterns and Foster mattress for a different price but they might call it the bbb. It will still be Sterns and Foster but the model name might change depending on where you get it. The point is, the mattresses are identical. There are websites out there with comparison charts to help you identify what is what. Make sure you find one you like then find out what other model names it sells under at other stores. Then just find the one with the lowest price. The retailers do this intentionally to make comparison shopping more difficult.

spending more that $1000 on a queen/king set is a waste of money

you can get a quality set for $500 - $1000 depending on location/style/size, etc , etc

I went from sleeping on a premium matress to a regular sh!tty bed, and I honestly couldn't tell the difference. Once the matress gets worn in a little they all feel the same to me.

Yeah, so basically they can charge your $200+ for a fvcking upholstered box. Talk about profit margins.
