:( Hugs Ulfwald!!!

I sometimes wonder about my dad. His dog Jäger is the best friend he has, and the dog is like 10 this year. I can't stand to think how my dad will be affected when he dies in a few years. He's still his puppy as far as he is concerned.

You just got to remind yourself that all dogs go to heaven! He'll be there wagging his tail when you walk through the pearly gates!!!

Edit: Holy crap, I only read the first half of the OP and now you got me bawling here at work. Hugs man...come to the LAN party at Karsten's this weekend, get out of the house, let us help!

The dog my parents got when I was 10 (15 years ago) was put to sleep on New Year's Eve last year. I still get misty thinking about her. I won't elaborate any further. :(

Well, we all know that all dogs go to heaven, and this is good because today at around 6 pm my grandfather passed away as well. He has been suffering with lung problems. But now he is at peace. This man served as a belly gunner in WWII, built his own house, worked in a steel mill, raised 3 kids, built furniture after retiring, and never asked for anything except the respect an honest man deserves.

Lets raise a  to an American hero who survived one of the most dangerous jobs in WWII.

I'm sorry for your losses. Most non pet owners think this is assinine but losing a pet is just as traumatic and stressful as losing a family member.

hopefully the Vet did what he could. There are a lot of terrible vets out there that just don't have any real understanding of medicine other than the routine stuff.

http://www.vetinfo.com/dogmega.html is a link about this condition...there are few treatments available and survival slim.

hopefully your family can move on quickly, any other pets?

I wish I could show up at the LAN, but the funeral is Saturday, and i won't be able to make it.

I really do appreciate all the kind words and heart felt condolences.

A little more background on Chance: He was a dog that I rescued. I found him whenhe was just14 months old and had been beaten and thrown in a dumpster. I saved him and he became my best friend. He followed me throughout the house, even if it was just to pollute the bathroom, GAWD! how he survived that I will never know :D.

The vet had tried to help treat Chance, he told me what to do, special food to buy, etc. and after 2 months of treatment, Chance just was not getting any better. He hadfluid building up in the lungs as well as in the throat. He was literally drowning himself. So this was the right time to say goodbye to my beloved friend and fishing/camping buddy.

I lost my dog not too long ago, and had to put him down due to cancer. I know it's a hard thing to do, letting go -- but just remember the good times, and all the ways you both enriched each other's lives.

I'm sorry for your loss. It really is hard to lose a pet -- they become one of the family fast.

Sorry to hear about your losses. Its hard enough to lose your dog, but your father too. I can definetely feel your pain on one, not so much on the other.

Any way, my condolensces go out to you and yours

People who don't think pets are family members just don't get the meaning of owning a pet. I wish you and your family the best of Luck. It is time to pick up another puppy and bring him/her into your family. I would believe this is what Chance would want for you too.

It won't for a while. Although it is grossly inadequate now, just try to remember the good times and that it will get better. I really feel for you and I hope you and your family feel a little better as soon as possible.
