this is a better chipset cooler

Well, according to the linked MadShrimps review the passive Zalman slightly outperforms
the active Blue Ice and and owns it when the fan is removed from the Blue Ice.

Slightly better performance without adding another fan into the system FTW! :D

Well i got my bits and pieces.

Motherboard: P5B Deluxe BIOS 0507
Processor: Week 27 E6300
RAM: G Skill. 6400 HZ (2GB)

My highest stable overclock was 450Mhz FSB, with memory 1:1 4-4-3-12 2.1v, and the processor was at 3.15Ghz with 1.33 Vcore with a Vdroop of 0.02v, so an effective stable OC of 3.15Ghz with 1.31 Vcore. I was stable for 9 hours, before ending the test.

I'm in the process of volt moding the northbridge. If i can get 1.85 volts to the MCH i'm going to gun for 550Mhz FSB.

This board is excellent, especially the BIOS. Every time the overclock fails, just turn off the power on the PSU for 2 mins, turn back on boot it back up and the bios will recover itself by prompting you to alter the changes by pressing F1. Instead of resetting the CMOS and removing the battery etc.

Ohh yeah the cold boot issue with this board is the saddest thing I have ever seen.

Just a bit of advice when gunning for high FSB. Up the voltage on the SB Vcore to 1.7v and the FSB termination voltage to 1.4v. this is safe for the board and will cure any instability you may come across.

Our customer results seem to be decent over all, but yes, not quite as high as people expected. I think the E6400 is a good bang for the buck chip. I will, however, be curious to see how things change when the new line of conroe ready motherboards hit the shelves.

heres a review of 6 northbridge coolers from madshrimps

http://www.madshrimps.be/printart.php?articID=473

theres such tiny difference between the best of the bunch. that zalman i can see it having some clearance issues

the Jing Ting will be great for any cpu heatsinks that overhang the nb.like the noctua-nu12 as it stands off. http://www.bigbruin.com/2006/imageview.php?item=jingting&file=pic12.jpg

Ya when they arent being raped cuz of speed binning and whatnot.

Thats my thoughts. I think it was unrealistic of people to expect amazing results right now. Intel has a huge supply problem, i.e. there's not enough. So the chips are overpriced at a lot of retailers, they're early revisions so they're going to overclock poorly compared to later revisions and with a supply issue you can pretty much garentee that they've binned the duds as lower end chips. (Nothing wrong with that, its how you make efficient use of your fab capacity...its just the process isn't mature enough for them to be binning down x6800 caliber chips at this point)

Furthermore, motherboard selection is immature and limited to mostly undesirable or expensive choices at this point. Given time, both these problems will clear themselves up. Its still an excellent product, I think a lot of people just had delusions of grandur over it.

I'm waiting for the right motherboard and the e4300 conroe to come out before I make any jumps. Should be an easy, cheap, and fast upgrade at that point with a lot of overclocking potential.

Any one else notice that most of the new reviews out there on motherboards and overcloclking are NOT using the 6600 anymore. hmmmm

I have indeed noticed that. Can't say i'm not a little bitter after being persuaded into believing the E6600 is a shoe in for 3.6 and a good possibility for 3.8 or even 4.0. Unfortunately, the public's E6600 is maxing out around 3.3ghz. I'm not saying this is a bad overclock, just that it is RELATIVELY bad compared to what the expectations were set at. I'm happy right now with the E6600, but would have liked the correct information when deciding between the 6400/6600. Maybe it's just me, but I think that Intel and reviewers have a responsibility to let us know, and not discretely, that the testing ES samples are going to do significantly better than what the public will be able to acutally buy.

You've got a $350 chip that destroys a $1000 one, and is faster than Intel's own $1000 chip, and you're complaining?

Exactly, there are no guarantees on any overclock. It's always a dice roll. Even the C2D "dice roll losers" are getting chips that smoke the competition and even Intel's top of the line X6800.

I'll be happy with stock when my E6400 shows up and any overclock will be gravy.

I don't think he's complaining. Well even if he is, it's not about the chip's performance, me thinks.
