Been 2 years since I built my own computer...... Just wanted some of your thoughts on this setup. I will not be OCing since I'm too old for that.

P4 3.0C or E (havent deicded yet) $220
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe $180
2 - WD Raptor 74Gig SATA Raid 0 $450
2 - 80Gig WD SE 8MB on Raid 0 (<----Storage ;)) $40
Radeon 9800 Pro $200
Kingston HyperX PC4000 -1Gig Dual Channel $200
Enermax 450Watt PSU

Thank you. I've been using SCSI drives mostly but would like to try out the much quieter Raptors for a change.

Looks good to me except for one thing.
2 - 80Gig WD SE 8MB on Raid 0 (<----Storage ) $40
Wouldn't you want to run these in raid 1 so they mirror each other? They are plenty fast as individual drives IMHO and with raid 0 you risk loosing your data a little more.

amdskip, you're right I dont need the speed but mirroring is a good idea. Thanks.

How about the P4 C or E processors? I mean their pricing are within couple dollars. I know I'll be using this computer for the next year or 2 without much changes so E would be a better choice right? hehehehe.... I dunno.

yeah, I'm going to backup what amdskip had to offer.

RAID 0 really makes me nervous, especially in a desktop setting, where you're not going to see a significant benefit from the speed increase (especially if you're already using 10K raptors). heh. unless you perform system backups on a regular basis, I'd stay away from it.

If you're not overclocking, the C is faster in most tests and runs cooler to boot.

C would be Northwood, to clear any confusion.
