I guess I'm saying this . The fed issues leases to drill. If at five thousand feet a blow out occurs, and no one can fix it in a timely fashion, then from this point forward no leases should be granted at that depth until a solution can be formulated that would resolve a blowout at that depth.

Ha, Ha! You so funny

Please point us to these "studies" which lay out an appropriate response for a well blowout 1 mile below the oceans surface. I guess from your perspective a proper response is to stick your head in the sand and blame Obama. Why not? that seems to be the standard response for everything, healthcare, immigration, financial reform, environmental disasters, etc...
I'm sure you guys probably blame him for the weather also:)

My response has nothing to do with containing the oil spill other than the lax Fed regulation environment that allowed multiple safety checks to fail.

It is to the fact that the COE needs to decide if the booms will be effective and how to place such. These studies had been done on previous watches - NOW IMPLEMENT THEM.

....

Like I said, we will get our fair shake when this is all said and done. I guarantee it. Yall done pissed off the wrong people and WE hold all the cards. You fuckers need US not the other way around ...

Loosianna.jpg

btw -- Loosianna is consistently in the top 5 for the last 5 years in Federal spending received per dollar of taxes paid to the tune of around $1.80 per dollar paid AND

the Federal tax burden in Loosianna (with the exception of Mississippee) is the lowest in the country.

Though you might want to know :)

So which is it? Repubs need to make up their friggin minds. After Katrina they would have us believe that Bush bore little responsibility for poor planning and for it's effects during the aftermath. All the real responsibilities and decisions were in the hands of local authorities, any effort to hold Bush accountable for apathy and poor choices was just obviously partisan politics.

And now with this spill the same crowd is howling over Obama being the culprit of the response. Wow. Accountability only applies when there is a (D) involved, how noble.

LOLz at the hypocrisy, as well as pblabber's ongoing Palin lovefest. Sure, send her, assuming of course her fee is doable.

The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'
Ronald Reagan

Ah I see, now the Deep South is begging for the government's help. So much for the free market compelling BP to do the right thing, now it's up to the Coast Guard!

Asking permission from the Feds is now "begging for help"? Really?

Does anyone think that if Bush had been in office when this happened he and Chaney would have engaged their oil buddies and had this problem solved quickly. Too bad Red Adair is not still around.

The spill in the gulf is in international waters and the Feds apparently control whether or not protective barriers can be erected.

The press conference yesterday was pretty damn pathetic and quite saddening. Jindal is down there pleading for aid, pleading for someone to just get to work to protect the lands, take action.

Then one by one each Democrat goes up to the mic and like they were in unison repeat their talking points "we're going to keep the boot on the throat of B.P.", "B.P. stands for Beyond Patience", etc.

Jindal is trying to get something accomplished while the Dems were more focused on scoring political points for the upcoming election.

Bush was blamed for not responding quick enough right after storm - and when local authorities also made weak decisions. This leak is just the opposite. It's been weeks since the explosion and the start of the leak, and not only are feds intentionally ignoring the mess they are hindering local authorities trying to take action.

I agree with Ayabe

Everybody who wants the government to take over the spill doesn't have a clue! That would be like having some type of incident on the moon with a Nasa space craft and expecting the government to take over from Nasa.

Maybe Bobby Jindal should jump in his little sub and run down there a mile to the sea floor and fix this shit himself  People don't want to except reality, I guess their little fantasy worlds where the King can wave his magic wand and fix it makes them sleep better at night

Did you even read anything that was posted?

The COE has been holding up plans to prevent oil from entering the marshes and wetlands. Who exactly does the COE work for again? Furthermore, we already have our own plans to mitigate the damages, all we need is the funding and the assets which IS something that the Federal government can provide.

This isn't fantasy world bullshit. Down here in the "real world" the Federal government could have assisted Louisiana in preventing the oil from entering our marshes and wetlands weeks ago with plans that we created. It took the threat of lawsuit from our AG to get the COE to approve the use of sandbarriers for fucks sake. Yup... sounds like they are Johnny on the fucking spot when it comes to things that they have ample ability to do/provide/fund.

Pennies compared to how much money is stolen from us in the form of offshore oil revenue sharing.

Plus we do provide roughly 1/3 of the nations energy so umm, whats your point again?

We also have the pleasure of dealing with all of the chemicals that are used to grow your food and the dead zone in the Gulf that it has created.

We provide this country a hell of a lot more than it provides us.

Oh you mean those plans to build 80 miles of sand bars? The plan that even by Jindals timetable will take 9 months to complete? Yeah, lets get right on that  And while we are at it lets build a time machine and go back a year and start building those sand bars so they might actually do some good.

Lamar Alexander suggests federal government takeover BP (irony I know).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDzqOJRd0G0

My question is, since BP is not a US company, can the government even do this? Secondly, once the government officially "takes over" the clean up, is BP no longer liable for any damages?

Not doing something that is both costly and possibly useless is often preferable to going through with said plan. Your question sounds like a line from a crisis loving politician. We have too many of those already.

You lost me at "gaying out the military".

What exactly do you want Obama to do personally about the spill with HIS time? He doesn't KNOW anything about oil spills. Even if he were to throw every available federal resource at the spill there would still be no benefit to him canceling everything else on his agenda to come down and manage or give moral support.

I have never understood this childlike need so many people have for an empathetic leader figure who rushes to every crisis. I didn't know so many people had residual abandonment issues! :D

You would know if you listened to me. The essence of self hate is the feeling of being a leaf in the breeze or sometimes described as waiting for Santa Clause.

In order to immunize our children from ever feeling any pain we kill their individuality and turn then into robotized sheep that can only bleat and butt on command. We do this by put downs and the threat of the withdrawal of love and approval. And then, so that none of us ever remembers what was done, we all conspire to pretend that being insane is normal.

Have a care that you notice glitches in the matrix unless you've a stomach for the red pill. Mr. Anderson will not like it.

I quite like the feeling of being a leaf in the breeze. Once one gives up the delusion of control it's quite liberating. ;) But yes, on the observation of humanity's pandemic desire for a strong, comforting leader (and the underlying issues it results from) I think we might be of very similar minds.

Typical Louisiana attitude. "We're a PROUD people. We're southern gentlemen! We're Creole's! We're Sabine! We don't need the Federal gub'mint! You need US!" And yet, their number one source of income is now the federal government. When the .gov tried to close down Fort Polk, the locals sued the feds, claiming that since they had grown to depend on it, it had to remain open.

I remember standing in line with a buddy at the courthouse about 6 months ago. He gets up to the window and they ask him what parish his ticket was issued in. He turns to me and says, "What the fuck is a parish?" I replied, "It's retard for 'county.'" The lady at the counter, and the deputy watching the line weren't amused. I'm still amused today though, so it's all good.

Here's hoping the whole state slides off into the oil slick. Worthless leeches.

If ones delusion of control is that somebody else must satisfy my insane needs, then yes it is quite liberating and much of that is going on, but there is also a real emergency happening.

As disgusting as the fools who scream for help to save them from a situation nobody can yet manage and blame any and everything in sight, those who wish these poor people back to the muck, it strikes me, are even worse.

I have great pity for those who suffer and for the damage to the environment. But instead of joining together to manage this as best we can, the insane are absorbing all of the oxygen. The weeping and wailing and the clawing of talon and gnashing of teeth have created a circus spectacle of a political blame game. Everybody has formed a circular firing squad.

There is only one person in the world I can fault for this disaster and it is me. I didn't devote my life to getting this country off of gasoline.

If the Feds would have given us our fair share of offshore oil revenue, revenue that other states already enjoy, we could have rebuilt our wetlands which would have minimized the affects of the hurricanes. If the Federal Government hadn't cut corners and screwed the pooch when THEY built the levees Katrina would have been a non-issue for most of Louisiana (the far southern regions actually got hit with the storm, NOLA dodged a bullet till the levees broke, and the east was fucked by a FEDERAL navigation channel that was largely unnecessary and acted as a funnel for the water pushed by the hurricane).

Now the FEDERAL government leases land in the gulf to BP. BP drills for oil in which the FEDERAL government will profit from. The FEDERAL regulators fail to ensure that their own rules are followed and allows BP to screw the pooch, again on land leased from the FEDERAL government.

Now that Louisiana is paying the price for actions that the FEDERAL government intended to profit from and Louisiana had no part (or say) in, you have the nerve to say "Ah I see, now the Deep South is begging for the government's help."

On behalf of the state and the people that provide ONE THIRD of your oil and gas, energy that the rest of the country quite literally can not live without, I would like to simply say FUCK YOU .

We are getting real damned tired of this "Louisiana begging" bullshit. There is a ton of talk amongst the shrimpers and the fishermen to start a blockade of all that stuff we supply that the rest of the country seems to take for granted. Lets see what your saying when they shut down tanker traffic to the LOOP and the close down the River and the ports north of them. It would take a hellofa lot more than the Coast Guard to deal with a ton of pissed off Coonasses I can guarantee you that.

Personally, I wish for nothing more than Jindal to stop "begging" for help. I hope he posts Nat. Guard at the LOOP and simply turns the spigot off. I would enjoy nothing more than watching you bastards beg for a change and beg you will. Lets see how far your civics go when there is no gas to be found. Lets see how well you do when a substantial amount of your nat gas (and tons of other petrochemicals) vanishes in an instant. Commerce in this country will damn near grind to a halt in the matter of days. We hold all the cards in this game and we are about to start acting like it, with or without the assistance of the state government.

Yall keep fucking with us, those boys down in Dularge, Chauvin, Laffite (Barataria Bay), Grand Isle, Port Fourchon, Venice/Buras and the rest of the bayou towns don't play around when you back them into a corner. The Federal government was a complicit partner in the actions that have led to fucking up/potentially fucking up waters they have worked on for 100s of years. Our Parish presidents have put forth plans to protect their coasts for weeks now and no one is listening, not BP and not the Federal government. Yall keep on pushing ya hear, those coonasses will push back real soon and when they do YOU will be the ones begging and you won't be able to do a damned thing about it. Hell, you can't even get your ships up the river without those coonasses piloting the ship.

You "coonasses" sure as hell didn't have a problem when offshore oil drilling meant jobs and massive profits for your oil companies, which drastically outweighs what the federal government gets from those leases. Neither did I, until 2 months ago my job was mapping leases. But I'm not the one who's been beating the "government bad, states' rights good, private sector good, free market good" drum for 150 years

Bullshit. We have had plans ready to go for WEEKS. It took our AG to threaten to sue to get the damned COE to authorize making sand barriers. Go feed that bullshit to someone who isn't smack dab in the middle of it. I know exactly what is going on, who is doing what and who isn't doing what. I have been actually getting my hands dirty cleaning this shit up on my own time. We have parishes going broke spending money to protect their coastlines because the Feds nor BP will pony up the money to do it.

I'm talking about stopping the leak which we have no plan for and are just trying whatever comes to mind. IIRC this is the deepest offshore well on the planet, the Feds have no idea what to do and neither does BP. Doesn't matter how many booms we deploy or sandbars we build if we don't stop the leak we're fucked.

Same deal as Alaska, give me a fucking break? Our politicians have been trying to get our fair share for a decade. We lose more and more of our coast every single day (without the oil), caused in no small part from providing this country with the energy it needs. We can fix it our damned self if we got a fair deal, the same deals other states enjoy, but since we had some dumbfuck politicians decades ago the answer is "fuck us and our wetlands, but yall keep sending that oil our way ya hear"? Decades ago we had some dumbfucks that allowed the Feds to screw us, you are correct in that but lets keep it to the last decade or so. So pretty please, elaborate on what you mean by its our own fault (in the last decade).

Ok, glad you agree that your politicians have fucked you but don't act like every politician in your state isn't owned by big oil - so are large segments of the population in one form or another. It's a systemic problem which has a solution just not the will to get it done. Sorry that's the truth. There's a reason Baton Rouge smells like shit you can smell the refineries from miles away.

I also have a horse in this race, I've been an FL resident my entire life and am a boat owner who likes spending time in the Gulf. But even JEB! was smart enough to call W and nix the offshore BS they tried to pull that down here a few years ago....says something about him vs the sad sacks you're electing to office.

Leeches aren't worthless. They can save body parts being reattached by sucking old blood as adjuncts to surgery etc. It may be possible in future to genetically engineer them to suck oil and render it into easily degradable waste.

And I wouldn't doubt for a second that your need to denigrate your own people is very typical of the folk you came from.
