It doesn't get this hot in Berkeley. Says 105F in my back yard.

Not in Berkeley. Inland a few miles, yes, not unusual. But in Berkeley and San Francisco, never.
Actually, the S.F. Chronicle reported that the high for Friday was an all time record for any date, 106F. It was the headline for first section of Saturday's paper.

It was 107 at the beach in Santa Cruz. That is so far beyond anything I have ever seen before I don't even know what to say. Wouldn't have even thought it was possible.

Yeah, I saw 100F Sunday in Santa Barbara, right before we had a crazy thunderstorm with Hurricane force winds. Very odd weather. The worst part of this is that places like SF and others on the coast aren't use to this kind of weather so no one has AC. Really sucks, and can be dangerous.

I only heard about this yesterday, as I have family in SF. Truly bizarre.

I recall a few years ago, when I was still working @ Berkeley, the University had a suggested early release/work at home when the temp got up to 90. lol, weaklings.

I decided to go to SF this past weekend to avoid the LA heat. That didn't work out...actually it was worse because basically no one in SF had AC cause it never gets that hot.

Especially amusing since 15 miles or so inland it regularly get 100+ temps.

indeed. It does get hot, and even muggy when you cross those hills in the east bay, or even head south of SF. ...Hell, those savages even get, like, 0.2-1 inch of snow each year! D:

I lived in the Central Valley for 25 years. Rarely got muggy...but 105+ was common every summer.

We've been getting below freezing here overnight. 😛 Kind of funny since I end up using the furnace in the morning just to get the chill of getting up out. Then by evening I end up using the AC a bit before bed. It's kinda an inefficient time of year for that.

Follow up a few days later, the S.F. Chronicle reported 3 deaths from the heat, elderly folks who didn't have AC, of course, and didn't get to lower temperatures environments before they expired.

In my Berkeley house, if it gets super hot I go downstairs. Even in 90+ degree temperatures my downstairs is quite comfortable. But the heat wave we had last weekend was the exception. Even in the living room it started to get uncomfortably warm... a first.

I've never heard of that kind of temperature at a beach anywhere. It's get in the water or else weather!!!!!

Just got a random frost warning on my phone lol. I don't seem to have any issues here with it being too hot at the moment. 😛

Great weather for outdoor activity though. Sun is also not as strong when it's out so less chance of sunburn.

Crazy. Don't think we've seen it get that high here this year. We do get 30C+ heat waves sometimes but it's rare. Was in the 25 range most of the week with full sun though which is rare for this time of year. Was doing work outside, who would have thought I'd be having to put sunscreen in September lol. Now it's back to overcast/rainy and a bit cooler. Still 20 though.

Here on the Olympic peninsula, we went from highs in the 90's and lows in the 60's to highs in the 70's and lows in the 30's...within 2 weeks...and will be in the 60's this next week...with some badly needed rain.

And thank the heavens for that. I've missed the rain.🙁
